Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Looking good Matt!
Those corals are glowing in there, I can see some really nice shimmering colors, fish of course look happy too!!!
Great Job :)

There seems to be a softening of some colours and a darkening or 'richening' .. Enrichening(?) of others.
Interesting.
Definitely seems mid transition.

Thanks guys, the fish are all attention hounds! When I open the fridge they gather on that side of the tank and when I take pictures the Powder blue tang and the grey head wrasse keep getting in front of the camera- it's ridiculous. In the next few days they will be joined by 6 resplendent Anthias and possibly some Springeri Damsels:)

There are a couple corals that darkened up when I pulled all the rock out to get the Angelfish, when those lighten up its really going to glow. I've noticed a big uptick in growth as well, and had to increase the calcium reactor output a bit to compensate:thumbsup:

Really beautiful tank. This is one of my "goto" threads that I read everyday!! I've learned a lot just following along - Thanks!

Can i please see a pic of what 2 t5s are on using the 8 bulb fixture for dawn to dusk :D

Sure, it's bulb 3 and 6 that are dawn and dusk:

Update:
Its been super busy at work the last two weeks, starting with the Canadian Health Authority performing an inspection at the Biotech facility I work at. I am a part of the inspection management team, so I had a lot of long days. The Canadians were really, really nice...I know, shocker!

As for the tank, I have been just following the dosing schedule previously laid out, and growth has taken off big time. Lots of new growth tips all over. The fuzzy green Stag was a victim of itself as the upper parts were shading the bases too much, so I fragged this and re-mounted branches of the original colony to the base rock to give it room to spread out and grow back up toward the surface.

The most rapid growth spurt coincided with phosphate levels bottoming out around 0.03 or less. For the last week its been at 0.01PO4 when I have checked it in the evening. I've needed to increase the calcium reactor output to compensate twice now. Definitely a good sign.

A note to everyone to keep an eye on your water systems! I check my TDS a couple of times a week but I started seeing 10+ PPM on the outlet line from DI. The RO reading was zero. It turned out one of the wires from the TDS sensor for RO was broken. After fixing that and seeing 90ppm from RO, I noticed I was getting almost no flow out of the system. The pre-filters were all clogged up and shot. After replacing them, still very little flow. The RO holding tank was full but no water coming out I tried to pressurize it and heard bubbles moving through water. It turned out the diaphragm inside the RO holding tank had leaked water into the pressurized air space, and so I had to order a replacement tank. Now I'm back to good flowing, zero TDS water:thumbsup:

Yesterday I picked up 4 Resplendent Anthias. Very cool fish, I have more on the way. The only worry I have with them is they were getting chased a bit and they are very jumpy. I put some temporary barrier in place to keep them contained in the tank, and things are much calmer today, they are getting mostly ignored by the other fish now. I know lots of you use screen tops but I am not keen on covering the tank. So far this hasn't been a problem, I have lost only a handful of fish from open top tanks in the last 3 1/2 years(no Firefish need apply for residency here).

Update: Ordered a batch of replacement bulbs today, I'm at about 10 months on some of these bulbs. Time to start swapping them out. The Flubber tank gets the hand-me-downs.

I've been playing around with different combinations of bulbs to figure out what to buy. I think I'll start with 4 white and two purple, the rest blue or blue/actinic.

More Anthias and Damsels coming this week pending availability at Quality Marine...

Looking great Matt! It might just be the pic but everything is looking brighter and more vibrant. Loving the new resplendents! What is the pink acro in the foreground in the last pic?

Thanks! The corals are very bright for sure, but I also have brightened up the mix of bulbs quite a bit too. I have been using two actinic bulbs for a while but I wasn't loving the loss of brightness from them. I replaced them with blue bulbs and increased the white bulb count to 5 along with two purples out of the 14 bulbs. Its pretty dazzling in person.

the pink coral is pink with white polyps, the "Pink Blossom" from AquaSD.

Colors are looking good, good luck with the new fish!

I have a single yellow tail damsel. I wonder, how much room do they need to keep from killing each other?
