Mile High 220 Gallon SPS

Small update. Bought all the parts to build the manifold, should be here on Monday. Wanted to build some of the stand and bases for the equipment to stand on.

This base will house the UV, I'm going to use a bracket to mount it against the pole. It's also going to be home to the Arid reactor (whenever I decide to buy one) the manifold will be attached to the wall behind this base.

The other base to the right is actually where a frag tank will go.

Full tank shot. Got a serious case of Cyano forming. My phosphate is really high like 1.1 high, but I don't run GFO or anything to control it right now, why I'm going to try the Arid some time in the future.

I added a couple of Tank Bred flame angels last week, they were so small!

Did some hole drilling tonight.

This is where the pipe to feed the manifold will leave the stand and go through to the fish room.

Other side of the wall, it will do a 90 and then into the manifold.

A much larger hole, this is where the manifold return and equipment return lines will go through and back to the sump. Made it extra wide to fit the drains from the frag tank down the road.

Very nice! Are you planning to put flow meters on any of your manifold outlets? It would be great to exact the flow through each reactor, UV etc

Yeah, Was planning on using them on the lines to the UV and eventually the ARID.

I thought that too, but it was installed by a plumber, and they said it was fine, so I don't know haha

Plumbed in the pump I'll be using for the manifold. COR-20, should give me the flow I need.

This was a major PITA, all the angles, and measurements, felt like I was at NASA or something, maybe I'm missing a trick to this or something?

This took a really long time. But finally got the manifold plumbed in. Hopefully all my joints are good, and I've set it up right, bit nervous to turn on the pump, will wait 24 hrs now for all the cement to cure.

How's it look?

Leak test went well, surprisingly, no leaks, (pats ones self on the back).

Decided to shorten the cable to the UV bulb, was about 15' long and only needed about 2', so because of this, now have to wait a couple days for a replacement connector to arrive in the mail.

Impressed with the COR 20, my manifold is not an easy stretch, lots of 90s and 45s, and the flow is great so far.

This is with the return to sump valve completely open, UV almost closed. And it's only running at 20% for 5w of power, could run at 15% but at that low of a level it's hard for it to read the watts used, so just keeping it at 20%

Copied post from another forum in September

Couple of small updates.

Added a juvenile yellow belly blue tang. Must have been around .5-.75", so small it could hide in a birdsnest.

The war against Cyano looks to be turning the corner. The UV looks to be doing the trick for me, I also added a pair of diamond watchmen gobies and they have transformed the sandbed, always wanted a pair of them and LA managed to find me them.

November update

Everything is going well with the tank. Added a lot of fish since September.

Here's a current fish list:

Foxface Lo
Blue Tang
Multibar Angel
Copperband Butterfly
2 Flame Angel
3 Yellow Damsels
6 Blue Chromis
Twin Spot Tang
Gold Midas Blenny
2 Yellow Watchmen Goby
2 Galdiator Clownfish
2 Rainfordi Goby
1 Diamond Watchmen Goby
2 Bristle Tail Filefish
Earmuff Wrasse
Mitratus Butterfly
Moorish Idol
Melanarus Wrasse

I tried adding a 2nd small Multibar to try and form a pair but was unsuccessful getting him through QT :(.

Also just been working on dialing my CaRX in, about full on the fish side, will look at adding more rock (branches) and then adding more SPS

Full tank shot November 2018

I love the Anemone island! Also that birds nest colony is strange looking, how's you get it to grow like that?!

I left it in a friends tank for about a year, so it was already growing a bit like that, but now in my tank, it's up against the glass, so every time I scrape with the magnet it breaks the branches off closest to the glass, so as it's growing it's essentially width limited, so guess it's forcing it to grow more vertically. That's my theory anyway
