millions of crows overnight in Rochester

millions (and I mean MILLIONS) of crows overnight it in Rochester.

They used to have this problem in Auburn, NY and National Geographic did a feature on it.

Last year there was probably tens of thousands roosting overnight in Rochester but after the DEC attempted to scare 'em off I think they went and got their buddies.

Has anybody else here noticed what I'm talking about?

Last spring they overwintered by Manhattan Square Park and (Tad's) Strong Museum of Play but NOW they're starting to roost west (around Ames and Child streets) all the way to the Museum of Play and eastward.

Thet start flying into the city from surrounding suburbs around 5PM and it looks like something out of the Wizard of Oz.

It's nuts!

I noticed a lot of them off the interstate by cuse' last week. They were in the nature preserve next to the thruway . My son (5 yo) pointed them out , they were all over the excavating equipment. There were so many you could barely see the yellow paint on the equipment.

crows are smart

crows are smart

quality of living is fairly good around upstate NY and they don't have to pay the high taxes! :twitch:

It was a really bad problem last year. I lived across from the museum and crows were everywhere at night. They fly in at night and off to the suburbs during the day, I presume because the city is warmer at night. If I forgot and parked my car under a tree overnight it was pretty nasty the next morning.

Some local downtown businesses like Geva were trying to get permission to do something about them and I think poison baits were discussed but I have no idea what ever happened with that.

BTW I love Montezuma refuge, I used to go there during college to collect insects. Found some really rare and cool stuff there.
