Minimalist Aquascaping

Very nice tanks in this thread, inspiration to me on the rescaping of my big tank, but I noticed that few nano's are represented. With this 10 gallon AIO, I fell in love with peninsular setups, and with minimalist my paradigm of a great tank is complete.

Love the minimalist look to all of your tanks...great inspiration for a newbie to be. Question: Do you have to follow the 1.5 pounds per gallon rule as far as biological filtration is concerned? Do all of you have the remainder of LR in the sump, or is what you see in your tank sufficient?

That's just another one of those "silly" rules like watts per gallon, etc. It depends on your actual rock, livestocking, and overall surface area. For example, a rock the size of a tennis ball can be super dense and thus weigh 3 or 4 lbs, but that's not nearly as efficient as something lightweight and porous that has a lot more surface area., yet only weighs 2 lbs.

If you have 10 large tangs you'll need a lot more rock than say a single neon goby. (For biological and other purposes.)

Some people do have extra live rock in their sump. You do have to be careful about providing enough flow (via powerheads) in your sump to ensure no detritus builds up in the rock.

Brand new tank and just starting to fill this one up so in this picture it only has two corals... Gotta a lot of filling up and growing out to do...

solana xl

solana xl

It was an upgrade/transfer from a smaller 34g tank

I noticed you have the solana xl 67. Are you happy with it? Did you keep the stock sump or make a new one? Are there any frustrating limitations inherent with the design?

Thanks

Heres mine I just started tanks a little cloudy its only been up 2hrs. The big shell has been removed did not like the way it looked.

At first glance, I find some of these tanks to be very impressive (others, not so much....sorry), but don't you get bored with them very quickly?

I think the only way I could make a minimalist tank work for me is if I were to constantly re-arrange things.

I did the full box of rocks look for seven years. I recently moved and have gotten settled and wanted to change it up a bit. Different people have different tastes.
