mixing a maroon & percula?

Kigs

In Memoriam
i've recently lost my ocellaris male, and i'm thinking of getting a gold striped maroon for my female percula. has this been done before? if so, could i see some pictures?

typically (according to Wilkenson's clown fish book) maroons do not pair with any other speices than maroons. But, i would try it, you never know it could work and you could have the sweetist fish around.

ohh yeah and braging rights. Like, i have a pair of percs living with a maroon in a 125 gallon. And they are doing great. I need to get her a mate soon. Although, i think i will have her get larger first, so she can just dominate the other fish.

i'll give it a try. i just remember seeing other ppl pairing up maroon's with other species, not particulary a percula.

Keep us posted my occellaris was my first fish could not bear to see anything happen to it. been wanting to try this and am glad to find someone willing to be guine pig. if you can get them to bread you could pretty much set any price on those fish and people would still snach them up

Will do. Just put an order through liveaquaria.com and requested for the smallest maroon to avoid any agression between the two.

Do you think there will be any difference between tank-bred and wild caught?

If they would pair at all, I would think a large female maroon and small ocellaris male combo would be most likely. The problem with reversing the sexes is that there may not be enough of a difference in size between a female ocellaris and a male maroon.

My GBM pair are quite differently sized. The female is at least 4" and her little mate is an inch at most.

I just put in the maroon (1 1/2'') and he got beat up pretty bad by the percula. He's in a hang-on holding container for now... should I put him back after few days? or do you guys think I should just return the fish?

It's usually not a good idea mixing clowns.
However, i was in a similar situation as vince.
Had 2 false percs, one did the carpet dive.
Survivor looked lonely, so I got him a buddy.
I also bought a small maroon for my BTA.
The new false perc loves my maroon, and cuddles w/ it in the
anemone.
I have nice pics of this, just trying to shrink and post.
Vince, if this is for your 10gal. I would get rid of one of the clowns
Probably your maroon. They really should have a host
