mnml's rimless

I got this nice frag pack from a local reefer, Leo (Aquariumclown), tonight. Also, moved my clams from the 25g over to the 125g.

That frag pack is kick ***. I wish the people in my area grew SPS. I'm sure I could find plenty of Xenia if I wanted to :)

Very nice Tran... great planning and nice equipment. The rockscape is great too. Well done!

Is that stand pipe a CJ? Looks very similar. Any noise from 2" drop into the overflow? Just asking as my tank will have x2 1.5" CJ's but I've planned on having them set slightly higher in the overflow.

Tks
Andrew

Thanks everyone. I really hope these frags take off in my tank.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the compliment. A local reefer made the pipe for me, but it's very similar to the CJ design. I only get a little bit of splashing nose when the left side Vortech spins up in Reef Crest mode. I was thinking of raising it higher but I would have to lose the overflow cover. I don't think it'll be a problem since I don't have too much light spillage into that area. Maybe one of these weekends I'll build another stand pipe and try it out. :p

By the time I get my tank up and running, I will be able to buy my frags from you!

How was setting up the 2-part dosing on an empty tank, or have you done that yet?

Also, are you planning on the vodka dosing? If so, have you started, or do you need a more established tank?

Hopefully they'll be big enough to frag :)

Right now I'm only dosing a little bit because of the low calcium demand. It's quite simple with the Apex controller. I'm doing a few ML at 12am and 8am but I plan to spread out the dosing if the demand increases. I don't want to dose more then 10ml at a time to help prevent PH spikes.

No plans for Vodka until about 6 months in. However, I'm going to hook up the GFO reactor this weekend.

Right now I think my bulb combo is way too bright. I don't have a PAR meter to confirm this but a few of my "tester" SPS started to bleach a little despite being at the bottom left side of the tank. I order some Aquablue Special bulbs to replace the GE 6500K and should have them tomorrow. In the meantime, I've cut my main photoperiod down to 4 hours from 6. The new bulbs should be installed this weekend so we'll see how it looks. I'll let you know the results. *crossing fingers*

Yeah, 8x54 on a 20" tank is quite a lot. What bulb combo are you using now. Forgive me if you've already said it in a previous post.

Long story short, I've gone through 3 bulb combo changes, hopefully the 4th time is a charm. I just want to find something that won't shock my corals and will give a nice look to the tank. One thing I forgot to mention is my ATI is 8" above the water line.

My current combo is:

Front
GE6500K
Blue+
UVL White Actinic
Blue+
GE6500K
Blue+
Fiji Purple
Blue+

I'm looking to switch to this:

Front
Blue+
Aqueblue Special
Blue+
Fiji Purple
Aquablue Special
Blue+
Aquablue Special
Blue+

If anyone has a better combo they'd like to suggest, I would love to hear it. I'm new to T5 so I can use any advice I can get.

Here's my stash of T5 bulbs to play with:

5 - Blue+
2 - GE 6500K
1 - UVL White Actinic
1 - ATI Pro Color
1 - Fiji Purple
3 - Aquablue Special

Whatcha think?

Oh man! I absolutely love this tank!

How about a new FTS.

Keep up the great work

Thank you. Here's a FTS - don't laugh at all messy placement of corals. :jester:

That is exactly the bulbs I bought and plan on running once I'm all setup. The combo is similar. During my research last year, most people seemed to recommend this bulbs and have had the most success with.

Nice FTS too!!

Wow i was just emailing glass cages back and forth today on tank sizes and i think your tank inspired me to go ahead and go with the 30 inch depth instead of 24....Great build!
