How is the tank going Tran? Be sure to post an update and pics when you get back.
Are you going to resort to the PM again?

Hi Andrew,

The tank is doing okay but unfortunately I lost my female clown fish. I came back from my business trip and found her on the floor. :(

The PM is back in action since I was not able to remedy the EMI problem unless I move the ballasts about 6 ft from the Apex unit.

I'll take some pics this weekend and will share them soon.

BTW, your tank is lookin killer! Makes me want to try zeo!

Makes me want to try zeo!

His thread does the same thing to me! You don't know how many times I've created a Shopping Cart with the Basic 4, reactor, and all the goodies, but, for some reason I never end up pulling the trigger. I'm giving Vodka/MB7 a try for now.

Tran I will try to get you paid in PP tomorrow. I will most likely need to replace the ballast for same reason, by any chance you know what ballast is plug and play for this fixture? I am petty much sure SLS & Lumentek's ballast can not PNP, but I have not played with other ballasts so no idea.

hi everyone - the last several weeks has been a life changer. My wife and I welcome our first born son. He was born on Oct 6th and we couldn't be any happier. Here's a pic of our new addition.

The tank has been on cruise control for about a month now. I had a spike in ALK a few weeks ago which caused some of my SPS to become very unhappy. Parameters are back in check now so hopefully they'll rebound. While I was gone on a business trip, I lost my female clown and all 3 Bartlett's to jumping. It was very disappointing coming home to less fish. With the help from a local reefer, I got a screen made for the tank to prevent this from happening in the future (thanks RoboJet). Now that I have some time off from work, I decided to add a few more things to the tank...a few Lyretail Anthias, some ricordeas, fungia, and an acan frag. I hope to pick up some more goodies this weekend at Reef-a-palooza.

That's it for now, diaper duty calls :spin2::celeb1::hmm4:

Tran,
Congrats on the new addition. I get the feeling the tank might not get as much attention. It look great though.
Todd

Congrats Tran...

You will one busy man now. Keeping the tank in cruise control with the autopilot on will be a great idea.

The tank is looking great besides you being so busy!! Keep it up!

Thanks Todd, I hope that's the case. That baby is going to have to go to day care if so. :spin2: j/k

I've been trying to automate as much as possible. Just water changes and skimmer cleaning every 2 weeks is all that's required for now. Hopefully I don't have any more hiccups with the parameters then I should be okay for awhile. Thanks for the support Andrew.

wow, congrats Tran! I haven't been on Rc much lately. Hows your tank doing? The rocks you gave me are mostly purple now! I had it alk spike also, which is terrible since i'm dosing vodka. It burnt all the tips on my sps and some started to stn on me (sigh) Fixed the alk and stn seems to have stopped or at least slowed down. Anyways, congrats on the baby boy! I remember you were waiting on a delivery of a crib that day lol.

Thanks Mike. Parenthood is great despite not getting any sleep. I haven't done anything to my tank since my son was born. Just water changes every 2 weeks and cleaning the skimmer. Free time is hard to come by so I'm starting to get rid of the SPS and stick w/ softies/LPS. I plan to get a few Acan colonies for Christmas to replace some of the SPS I lost/gave away.

Hope your tank is doing well.

Thanks Tran, my sps is on a slow road to recovery. I already told myself that if they die then i will just stick with LPS/softies as you are doing. I bet you haven't got a wink of sleep since your son was born but it's well worth it. GL with the tank and newborn!

It's been awhile since I updated this thread. Parenthood has kept me quite busy as you can imagine. My tank is doing so-so due to the lack of attention. Some of my SPS kinda feel off but everything else is doing great. Now that I'm starting to get a bit of free time, I've decided to update the tank to bring in the new year.

I picked up a pair of Aqua Illumination Sol Blue LED modules + controller. Here's a picture of them hooked up. Please ignore the ghetto wiring job, I will clean it up once I get things dialed. So far I'm very happy with these fixtures. Super nice color output and the controller rocks. I was hoping to only need 2 modules but I'm going to pick up another one tomorrow. The light cover isn't where I'd like it to be, even with the modules mounted length wise.

I'll update more once I get everything figured out. :)

Hey Tran, looking good!
Sweet lights and sweeter kid!
We're cooking one up now. ;)

Do you think the coverage of those two led banks would be enough over my 36" cube?
Was thinking of looking into this at some point.

Hi Dennis. Thanks man, and congrats on the news. It's an amazing experience but I have to warn you. Enjoy sleep now while you can. LoL

I think 2 would be perfect for a 36" tank. I'm was debating on getting all 70 degree optics rather then buying another module. I figured I might go for a 3rd so I don't have any shadowing. I'm still going through the AI thread in the lights forum to see what type of programming people are using. I hope to get more time tomorrow to play with it.

From Geisseman to ATI now to AI's! your tank has seen the best of the best in lighting. I know that LED looks good though - i think you made the right decision. Looking forward to seeing how it looks with all three unit's rigged up in final.

wow Tran, looking good. I think a third light is in order. Doesn't look like it covers the sides of the tank very well. I think you need to give us some par numbers and compare it to the ati fixture.

Thanks Mike. You're right about the 3rd module, it definitely looks better. Here's a couple of pics I took. I'm running them at 40% power but the photos look much brighter. It's a little dimmer in person. I'm really digging the shimmer and that fact I don't get a lot of light spillage.

Really nice. I just ordered 3 for my 48x18x24 90gal. It looks like 3 will kick it on my tank. I read your whole thread you really have the bug and have gone through all the crazy stuff life and this addiction throws at you and when the dust settles you get back into it by getting new lights...lol...
* So tell me do you feel the coverage is good?
* Do you like the Apex better than the AI controller?
* Optics stock? or did you go all 70's??
* Any bleaching?
