Hey Tran, I really like your tank and I'm in the process of upgrading my setup. I am seriously considering going rimless for this build. I'm keeping it to a 48x24x24 or 48x30x24 LeeMar tank. At this point the only thing I am sure of is that I am going to use the "Herbie" method with a 3/4" return and one 1" drain with a 1" emergency drain.
There is no doubt that the rimless builds are clean and sexy. If you could snap your fingers and add Euro-bracing to your tank would you do it? Like you I will be using Vortech's. Any splashing/spillage with your setup?
The rimless tanks look like they are easy to clean and just beautiful tanks in my opinion. Given the fact we live in earthquake country I'm considering Euro-bracing for safety concerns. Even though I think if we were to see a quake strong enough to take your tank down it is not going to make a difference.
Hi Rotknee, thanks for kind words. I really like the rimless look and would do it all over again if I had chance. With that said, there would be some things I would change.
1. Plumbing: Right now I have a Durso style drain which is nice and simple. However, I would prefer the Herbie or the BeanAnimal style drain for safety. My friend Robojet has the BeanAnimal drain on her setup and it's 100% silent and fail safe. I really dig it! So if you're planning to pull the trigger, definitely go with your plan on using her Herbie.
2. Euro-Bracing: I'm on the fence on this. While it would help strengthen the tank and help splashing, I think it would make it hard to clean the glass. I use a Hammerhead magnet and I think it would be hard to clean the top of the glass where the water line is. I remember last July when we had that small earthquake. I lost about 3 gallons of water but luckily my tank didn't budge at all. I do think if it was Euro-braced it would of help keep some of the water in. :hmm5:
3. Size: I really like having the 30" wide tank. It allows more for creative aquascaping and gives nice depth perception. I do have a little bit of a problem placing corals in the back since my arms aren't that long.

I usually have to use a pair of long tongs to place the frag, which can be a pain sometimes.
LeeMar is a great choice. Vortechs are nice, but I would also consider the Tunze streams. They're produce less noise and require less maintenance.
Good luck with your new build. Please do post a thread once you get things going, would love to check it out
