mnml's rimless

Beautiful tank! Im loving the new additions, those are some awesome looking fungias :inlove:

Thanks, I've been looking for the purple/green fungia and was stoked that I found it at CFM. Made the 40 mins drive worth it :)

Ahh it all makes sense now. Thats funny, I was at CFM as well. I didn't have too much time to look around, just stopped in to say hi to a few people and snuck out before I touched my wallet. But now I see who grabbed all of the nice stuff :lol2:

Im curious what pellets do you feed to your lps? I have been searching for the fauna marine LPS pellets with no luck.
And, is that the Miami Hurricane chalice? If so, its a pretty quick grower so you should have a nice colony in no time.

FTS please!

Will try and get one this weekend.

I tried really hard to stay in check at CFM. I bought $100 cash but ended up going to the ATM. :p I didn't stay long either, which is a good thing for my wallet.

I currently feed New Life pellets 2x a week. Each polyp gets 1-2 pellets. My Acans, Duncan, RBTA seem to love it but I don't see the much difference on my Favias :twitch:

Yep sure is. It was kinda browned out when I first got it but it seem to be coloring up. I hope it does well being that it's my first chalice. :rolleye1:

I've been on the hunt for an orange hammer but I came across this piece and couldn't resist. It's purple with a hint of orange with grayish tips. Very cool looking in person.

I also chopped up my frogspawn and mounted to the top of the left rock. What do ya think?

Here's the right side. I hope to put the purply hammer to the left of the green hammer.

I must say your tank is awe inspiring. If I can get my future reef to look anything like that, I'll be content. Good job on the build, all that patience paid off.

You can now sit back, turn off the tv and stare at all the little critters in your tank :P

Thanks hamiltoguy, really appreciate the nice words. The tank has gone through its ups and downs but I'm happy with the results so far.

 Great setup bud, and i love the LED's..... have been contemplating how to arrange the LED'S in the comming upgrade but now im pretty sure i am all set! now i just need to order the material to build the new tank!!!

Current is 36X30X18, new will be 48X30X18, just want to give the fish a little more swimming room and also a little more space for a few more Frags that i have been wanting to collect but have no room for haha.

Thanks for sharing! only took me all night and this morning to read the whole thread :)

Hey Tran.

I've been reading through your build, educating myself on my new venture, yes I'm setting up my first ever reef tank!

I'm having a 48x22x18 rimless tank made by leemar. I plan on having a 30g sump, where I will run a skimmer, and heaters. I want to keep the system pretty simple. I would like to have a mixed reef with a bunch of fish. LPS & SPS.
As far as lighting, I'm gonna go with a 6x54 w sunpower ATI fixture.

With everything being said, Im wondering if you had any tips for me. The part that make me the most nervous is the plumbing. I'm having a center overflow, 1.5 inch drain and 1 inch return.... However I would like to keep the plumbing as simple as possible, as this I something new to me. I also, like the look of your black pipes, so would like to go with something like.

Any advice would be most helpful.
Cheers

Ps, I live in LA, I hope one day I can swap some frags with you.

This is an awesome shot. I love the vibe your tank has - very clean.

Thanks Andrew. I gotta figure out a way to take out that Stylo colony that's not doing so good. It's encrusted to the main rock and I'd really like to replace it with something else. I tried pulling it off but the entire rock moves and I'm afraid it will make the top rock fall over. Any ideas?

Thanks Rytek, appreciate the positive feedback

Hi Viks,

Thanks for the nice words. It sounds like your build is going to be great. Great choice on tank builder and lighting. I would recommend getting a screen for your tank. I have lost many fish due to carpet surfing and wished I would of placed a screen on my tank sooner. As for the plumbing, you can get a durso or something similar to quite the flow. Are you going to run a filter sock? If not, consider a reverse durso in the sump so you don't get a ton of micro bubbles. Have you decided what kind of bulb combo you're going to run? A good combo to start would be 4 ATI Blue+, 1 KZ Fiji Purple or ATI Purple+, 1 ATI Aquablue Special. You can get all Blue+ and 1 purple for a bluer look. I use to run 6 blue and 2 purple bulbs and my LPS were very happy.

Good luck on your build and have fun! Please do share your build thread if you decide to make one.

Take it easy
Tran

Thanks Tran.

Yes, the sump that i'm gonna buy has a filter sock built into it...btw, do you know of any good places to buy sumps? or even get them made. i don't really want to spend a fortune on it.

i've ordered the lights, and got the exact combo you mentioned. i was chatting with Grimm in the light T5 thread, and he suggested the same as you.

can i ask, did you place anything between the tank and the stand? i keep going back and fourth over this issue. my stand is being made profesionally, so hoping that it will be flat as a pancake!

thanks again for the advice.

The only local place I know that makes quality custom sumps is Advanced Acrylics. John can pretty much make anything you desire. Let me know if you need his info.

The LeeMar tanks come with a small layer of what looks like thick poster paper. They said I wouldn't need to place foam underneath.

great tank man!

Thanks dude!

I picked up a few new items for the tank this weekend.

Neon Green Hammer. I really like this one because the stalk is a solid dark purple, not translucent.

Here it is next to the other hammers

I also picked up some new fish

White Cheek Tang. I really like the shape of this guy, it reminds me of an Achilles but easier to keep. :P

Also picked up a pair of Helfrichi's. They're still quite shy but I was managed to snap a few pics of them feeding. I'm not sure which one is male and which is female.

Here's the smaller one, male?

This is kind of a random shot but I'm currently coral sitting for a friend while he's moving. My sand bed is packed with goodies
