This one was in CORAL magazine in the first volume about three years ago. Still one of my favorite tanks of all time!

Yes I recently bought that issue just to read about this tank. Very cool. I like the way he aimed the halides.

New tank. We did our best to design the tank around the look and feel of the new loft. The large white unit that looks like cupboards beside the tank is a king size murphy bed, so when that is down at night, the tank is at bed height. Really cool. Just need to fill it and get my poor puffers back in their home!

Justin looking good  Some thoughts, we feel could really take it to the next level.

Change up some heights and color in the room. It's too matchy-matchy. Black (leather) and gray/chrome is in every element.

The right cube part of the stand would look great in a contrasting white.

In front of the barca's is screaming for a white shag rug. (Edit, just read about the Murphy, not sure if that will work...perhaps some carpet squares in a mosaic?)

Move the plant to the left where the vase is, all the height and action is on the right wall.

Somehow try to incorporate wood in the room, it will really expand it. Also a nice standing mirror would look great just to the right of the arco, reflecting part of the tank.

The pillows actually are very nice, but with the furniture it doesn't fit.

Okay that's all we got for now :p ... JMO of course, but we think those changes could really improve upon your already great space.

BTW, very jealous of your concrete floors ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions! Im going to see what I can do with some of them. I think we tried the plant on the left but it was really cramped there. I will try it again though. Would you just go with no pillows then? I actually did not want pillows but my fiance absolutely LOVES those pillows...

I may actually try painting the right cube of the stand white. My original idea was to do that but for some reason I changed my mind. I had that idea in my head ever since I saw that elos black and white stand in this thread. I even have the white paint already but it would be a bot of work to change the black now. Maybe at some point I will give it a shot though.

What would you do for wood elements? I agree that the room really needs them but I just can't decide what.

We really have struggled to finish this room off. We know its missing things but have been hesitant to buy anything new until we can figure out what its really missing.

Thanks for all the ideas though!

Justin, I like your new stand very modern....what's the height?

yeah add some wood element, maybe one of the stand.

The height is 20". So that made it impossible to have anything under the stand which is a pain but there was room just behind the tank for a small rubbermaid sump. Its actually worked out quite well. I had to give up some equipment with this tank but Im actually very happy about that. I want a very low wattage set up. So far Im looking at just under 380 watts total.

Justin, I love the new place!!! I sell lofts in Los Angeles as a real estate agent and am curious as to what development your loft is in. I have some loft clients that are looking to move up to Vancouver from L.A. Ha Ha Not to take this thread too off track but i noticed you are in the film industry. most of my clients are too and that is why they are moving to Vancouver???

Also i would agree with Glass box-Design The room needs to be broken up a bit i would even say maybe a red for the cube and not a white! and you need something on the floor to brake up the concrete gray.

check out some of the building i have listing in for ideas!

Thanks Cam!

Our loft is in XL Lofts. In my opinion, its in the best location in Vancouver. Not right downtown but only a 10 minutes walk across the bridge. 2 minute walk to the Sea Wall and beaches, 30 seconds from Broadway where there is so much shopping and great food. And about 10 minutes from Main Street which is one of the coolest streets in Vancouver. Very central.

My fiance also works in the film industry doing make up. I actually do storyboards for films both animated and live action. I do have a background in film, as I wanted to be a director. I decided to try animation and loved it. So I kind of do whatever work is out there. Right now its designing characters for a kids TV show on Nickelodeon.

Sorry off track!

I love the idea of a red cube! Im not sure though...Im kind of scared of doing it. I love red though and really wanted to have more red in the room. We were just kind of scared we would do it wrong.

p.s. how did you get your aqua scape like that???? post some more pics

Zip ties and epoxy. I will take some close ups later.

I have actually had a few job offers in LA and was thinking of eventually moving down. I love the Union Lofts in that link. I may have to talk to you if we end up moving down at some point :D

Stick with simple, white or charcoal. I would highly advise against red. It sounds like it will be a pain to re-paint it, but I feel it would be worth it... it will create distinction between the two bases.

Some ideas...
Shelving?

Wonder Wall

The ladder

Some classics- Eames Folding screen? Nelson Bench? Bent Ply Mag Holder?

Thanks glassbox-design, I really like the ideas you have given me.

It would be a pain to paint the stand but I agree it would be worth it! I am going to wait until I have more time but I think I will sand it, re-primer it and paint it white.

I actually saw a nelson bench a few weeks ago and really liked it. That may be an option. I had never seen the Eames folding screen before but I just found pictures and I love it. I may look into finding one of those even.

Thanks again for the help!
