He got so much attention i thought he deserved his own thread. His new tank is ready aside from a much needed re scaping to accomidate his massiveness lol, but he is in there now. New tank is 132 x 36 x 40 or 820g and a pain in the *** to work in lol.Still too small for life but certainly better than what he was in. Everyone just calls him hoover as he sucks down nori by the sheet.

Well done! :D
Now THAT's how these lil' juvie tangs are gonna look after a few years.
I bet not that many have actually ever seen a full grown large tang, like Naso vlamingi or some of these Acanthurus'... They should, and maybe then think again before getting one!

So how big is Hoover now? Bariene, right?

Acanthurus xanthopterus

19ish inches now. Had him in a large koi net earlier today for the move. Easily 10 pounds  Got him the size of a quarter, 7yrs later this hahaha. He is awsome.

Beautiful fish. I'm glad to see he found a home with a little fin room :) I agree that more people need to think about how large some of the tangs can get when they see a cute little fish in the LFS.

That is an impressive tank. What else do you have in there?

Amazing, purchased as the size of a Quarter and in 7 years that's how big he is!!! This needs to be shown to everyone who try's to buy a small tang that will reach a size far too big for their tank. Keep the pictures coming!

Wow...I have one like it either yellow fin or blochii and he is a little bigger then a quarter being qt and I might have to consider taking him back to the local pet store...yikes!!!

Yeah the really big acanthurus should be left in the ocean or to a city aquarium. This includes Acanthurus mata, dussumieri, bariene, fowleri, xanthopterus. They are pretty cute when tiny but grow quite fast

More pics to come, also have a few videos of him being pet and following me around like a shark lol

Worth repeating!

Congratulations for keeping it healthy and providing the proper environment for it!

Beautiful tang, and can't wait to see more pictures! I'm glad he's in a tank that's appropriately sized, it seems like all too often you see a huge tang in a little tank.

Who says aquarist are not passionate! How many dog lovers go out and buy 10 acres so there lab can have plenty of room to run in when they grow up? Awesome tank and fish! Oh by the way my lab has 16 acres to roam in the afternoon.

Glad you gave him his own thread where people can see it not buried in the other thread. Can't wait for the vids!

Bet you lost a lot of water getting him out of the old tank, talked to an LFS about their giant fish before. They said they had a huge mess of water on the floor from it struggling and the water volume in the tank dropped noticeably just netting him out (minus the mess)!

Beyond beautiful! It is always amazing to see people who truly care about the well-being and longevity of their fish.
