Never tried a freshwater dip, didn't expect any `strong' such dip to leave me a coral.Originally posted by amheck
Will a simple iodine and freshwater dip get rid of them, or is there more to it than that?
Did use fairly strong iodine dips, then blowing all the nudis off. Toothbrush to scrub for eggs. Crevices and hidden areas in the mounts can be problematic.
Eggs can be hard to find IME. I seemed to mostly beat them - but still lingering damage so I moved some of the LR the montis were on to another tank, cut any areas close to the base/recession/nudi-damage.
In my experience, nothing seems to kill the eggs beyond manual removal. Dips don't do it.
Levmisole I found late into my battle, and didn't want to mess up what, after a while, appeared to be working. It does appear to offer some hope for eradication.
Some have found various wrasses to help, others try the wrasses with little success. I didn't want to mess around, as it doesn't take long for a 1" encrusting frag to be eaten. That said, lost most of my smaller encrusting-type frags.
Nevermind a predator might still leave enough to survive, come back in the future ... or be traded to a local reef friend. Figuring I've got two amazing frags I've had offered to help me re-stock ... avoiding passing it along was important personally.
I discovered the nudis when I wondered one day why a snail was hanging out repeatedly on the bottom of my cap - which last I checked, was live coral. Pulled it up, much of the bottom was eaten - a few inner areas I couldn't see from the front.Originally posted by pookstreet
Mark, how long did it take the nudis to destroy that cap?
Hung on for a few weeks, but it was a losing battle.
Given I had given a good dozen frags of it away locally - realized I could get it back if wanted + decided not to frag. IMO, in it's weakened state it couldn't handle the iodine dips the others could.
Anyway - enough doom + gloom. I talk a little more about my experience recently here:

Couldn't agree more.Originally posted by Sand Dollar
I've already had my bout with them and don't wish it upon anyone.
Wish I could get a good pic of my `hopeful Monti' ... the frag I got recently. Interesting thick plating type, green w/ blue-purplish polyps. Going to be stunning, just give me a year.

Sure is fun to watch them grow:
