Moving into the area

I'll be moving into the Denver area (Englewood) in the beginning of August and wanted to say hi to the local reefers.

Do you folks have monthly meetings, frag swaps, etc.? How active are folks here? I'm coming from the Phoenix area and helped start the FRAG/PROP groups there many years ago.

I used to have a pretty stocked 125g reef but am now down to a 30g cube in the office.

Welcome and between this forum, the Marine Aquarium Society of Colorado, and one in Colorado Springs, there are plenty of activities and hoby events.

Welcome Durwin.
Summertime we generally take a break from monthly meetings. They usually start back up in September, and I believe the SCMAS is having a frag swap in Colorado Springs in October. Hope this helps, if you need any more info just post away.

Welcome to the Denver area!

Thanks for the welcome. It will take a little time for me to settle in anyways so Sept would be good. I'll be starting from scratch anyways since its too painful to move the livestock across states.

Ok, after a less than fun move, I'm somewhat settled in.

So where are all the decent reef stores in town?

I'll have to check out Keys Island. Is there a list of local reef shops someone can point me to?

Thanks,

There use to be a sticky that Artfuldodger did that had a good summary of the stores. Not sure where that went, Neptune’s is a decent store. Key's is good for small frags you want to grow out. The Fish Palace (new owner within the last month) and Todd's are really close to each other and are ok. I have a thread with stuff to trade but I'd be happy to give you stuff to get you started. Let me know.

Dave & Monica,
I did see a writeup by Artfuldodger when I googled (http://www.artful-dodger.com/fish/lfs.html) but wasn't sure what was still around or what may be new. I like to grow stuff out from frags and usually trade for additional stuff. I usually shop LFS for the fish though.
I'll take you up on your offer on some frags once I decide if I should start my tank now or wait until I have more permanent residence (house sitting in the in-laws house while they are out of the country right now).

Thanks,

Don't forget Aquamart Online, Reef n Pond, Don's Hobbies, etc.

OK which one of us is the new owner of Fish Palace?

Just thought of a new club outing, a fish store poker run!

WELCOME!

I too like aquamart, and Keyes Island. The staff is great at both places. Sometime I venture up to boulder to visit aqua imports, as they seem to have good prices on hardware equipment.

Keys gets my vote, then Aquamart, then Neptunes, and a million miles down the list past everyone else, and their mother is Liquid Kingdom. Just my opinion of course.
Chris
