I've been trying to figure out the hype over the jaebo and from what I can tell comparing these 3 pumps is comparing apples to oranges to grapes.

If you have the cash, it comes down to features. I always choose the MP's because they have features the others don't. Not to mention one of the best customer support systems I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Yeah it's expensive, but to me those features are worth it. To others, maybe not so much. It's awesome to have several different choices.

Just like your comparison to apples, oranges and grapes... these are all fruit. And the 3 pumps are all wave makers. Does that hepl any? Nobody said they are the same, just that their main objective is the same, making waves.

Exactly my point. If "making waves" (which i have no desire to do) is your main objective, then you can make your decision based on that.

Just thought I'd chime in again. An unfortunate mishap resulted in my mixing tank getting nuked with something really nasty, I suspect copper (thankfully, no major casualties. The water went into a QT for some LPS I had coming in. When they started melting and the hitchhikers on their plugs started dying, I put two and two together). Rather than replacing the PHs in the tank with four koralias like I had in there before, I ordered a 6105. I'm going to put it in my DT to compare with the wp40, and the loser will be my new SW mixing pump :-p. I have a feeling getting the tunze to make a wave will be a little trickier, as I have to play around in the Apex rather than turning a knob, but I'm curious to see the result.

If you think the tunze looses and will make it your mixing pump let me know and ill trade you my mixing pump for the tunze

Well, a close match between Jebao and Eco Tech. I'm not surprised that Jebao won given all the hype about them here on RC. But now we can do this again in 6 and 12 months and see how those results compare. I suspect if the Jebao pumps hold up OK, and nobody knows if they will or not, but if they do I think the Jebao will win by a bigger margin. And I think Eco Tech and Tunze have both noticed... they may not change anything, but they've noticed.

Why would you think the more expensive, harder to obtain pump would win over a cheaper alternative? Most people in this hobby can't afford a vortech pump so you offer them a pump which does close to the same thing and make it affordable. This is a finally a chance for some reefers to get there hands on a wave pump they can afford and there jumping on the opertunity. It's like asking people what they would buy now a Kia or a BMW? What do you think most people would buy in there current situation?

Comparing a $100 Jebao and $335 (Tunze) pump isn't even close to comparing a Kia and a BMW. One is a fairly cheap toy and the other is an expense that most people spread out over 3-5 years. Your comparison just isn't even close to applicable. :lmao:

The comparison was not meant to be close in same content. It was a simple. Your asking what most people would buy in there current state and that's why you have the results you got.

Now lets do a poll on what you think is the best most quality pump. I think the result will be different.

I have zero interest in what people think is the 'best most quality pump' as I think we all know the answer to that one. The point is, given the cost differences, which one would you buy today? I know there will be people who will want the Vortex, and that makes perfect sense even to me! But I've also read posts from people who own a Vortex or two and have said they plan to sell them now that they have the WP40. It's a cost vs value question. Not a which one is the best question. Does that make more sense now?

There are so many strong opinions for each pump. Each person has given different opinions on why they would choose a certain pump. Some choose because of budget, others choose because of long term success or trusted vendor just to name a few.

A lot of people would think the MP40 is the highest quality simply because of the highest price point. In this case the medium pricepoint Tunze will run circles around it when it comes to durability. The MP40 does have a lot of extras though and it's main selling point is size, not quality.

A kia will give you a 7 year warranty ;)

I wish I went for Tunze from the start but I didn't' I got MP40s. They are fine if you run them below 50% ideal at 20-30%. I upgraded to 180g and noise from two MP40s have became a problem. Wet sides are getting older and need to be replaced (according to Ecotech every year or so). I got WP40 out of curiosity for less then $100 and replace one of my MP40 (the noisiest one) - what a relieve! I was able to cut my noise level by half at least. I'm really confused when people here complaining about WP40 making excessive noise. Yes I can here it when I close to the tank but that's it. We can here MP40s on our second floor with two doors closed.

The difference would be if you get caught in law abiding countries, you pay the fine for someone else's work. Ask Hydor, they are paying a fine for their magnet mount, which is in the two patent links posted. I have no love for Ecotech but I do believe in the protection of patents. Tunze and Ecotech stand behind their products, because they have a reputation and believe in the products they design, market sell and support. Jebao on the other hand takes no responsibility for what they sell. It still begs the question what do they know about their product that you don't if they don't warrant or support it?

People flock to cheapness with no thought about the big picture. It is what it is, and when there are no small upstart companies with an innovative idea left where will new products come from? If you personally thought up, designed, manufactured, spent a ton of money to market a product and someone in China copied all or part of that design and sold it for a lot less than you do, how would you feel? Would you want to continue to develop anything new, knowing that some dupe shop was going to copy it and undercut your price by a large amount. If this were you, would you say it is ok, no harm done? If you answer yes, then you are the problem, not the solution.

Of all the post this one was the best.

I went to a LFS few days before and he had a mp40 on his display tank. Gosh its noisy! Even with water gushing sound etc etc, the mp10 was the noisiest. I can hear the pump very clearly around 3m away. I've also encounter very quiet mp40s in lfs but they don't seem to be as reliable as they should be. I've gotten my wp40 and loving it. My friend has been using one ever since it was first launched and he encounter 0 problems. He has since replaced 3 mp40 for 3 wp40.

Ecotech Vortech.

Say NO to Chinese knockoff garbage.

Lets buy from honest reliable quality companies.

Not unoriginal copycat scammers.
