It's nothing new, there was once a lot of people scooping up Jebo skimmers and modding them, lots of people are convinced that cheap is always a good thing without seeing the big picture.

Your gonna need alot of money buying jeabo as youll be replacing them when they have problems rather than haveing a pump with great cs to help you out no questions asked.
You may well be right and I agree that in a lot of cases, it is more expensive to be cheap/poor in the long run. However just how reliable Jebao's new controllable pumps are is anyone's guess. They are new so I wouldn't discount them yet.

I voted MP40 because I did just buy another! lol I love the flow, especially the undertow of the MP40 and not having any wires in the display, nor a bulky powerhead is a major plus. I cant hear mine unless Im right by them which makes me wonder.......How quiet of a house do people that complain of noise live in? Maybe Im just not overly sensitive because I delt with an Aqua C Remora Pro on my old tank. Now that by gosh is noise!!!!!!!!!! lol

You're right about that. I'm starting to wonder what the.. Um.. "Extreme motivation" for hyping these cheap knock offs actually is.

You're not the only one. Its been noticed more than one individual seem to have an above average passion for hyping certain products.

I can tell you that for me it started because I wanted people to know that they didn't have to spend $335 to $465 for a controllable pump. Sure, it's probably not as good and the customer service is almost non-existent, but it's out there and it's cheap enough at 1/4th to 1/5th the price. So you pays your money and you takes your chances. Simple enough.

But then the people who somehow find the 'cheap Chinese junk' so offensive that they have to attack it from every conceivable angle just light up the thread with attack posts. I agree with some of their positions. We don't know how well (or poorly) made this pump is, it's only been in the market for 2 months. And it's not a direct competitor to the MP40 as the MP40 has some very different features (and a disadvantage or two). It is a pretty direct shot at Tunze though. But just because it looks very much like a Tunze doesn't make it illegal (unless patent laws have been broken... and nobody has proven they have), or "improper competition" (competition is competition, you win or lose on how well you play as long as you don't cheat... and copying the other guy very closely isn't cheating). So I've defended Jebao over the crazy cheap Chinese junk knockoff ripoff complaints.

It's not a passion for hyping this pump that is driving the story. It's the guys who feel that they have to save the world from the unfair cheap Chinese junk knockoff ripoffs. If the naysayers would leave it alone, most of the story of the new pump would go away on it's own. And if it really is just cheap Chinese junk, the brand will lose popularity and in 6-12 months almost nobody would be talking about this. But they just keep ranting and raving about the 'FACT' that these are junk and somehow improper competition and illegal and have broken patent laws. If they had ANY facts the story would be over. But they don't, so they just keep on complaining. Just let the people who want to throw their money away on cheap Chinese junk knockoffs do it and let it go.

:) I've looked, perhaps I've missed it somewhere but I've seen very little evidence of this happening. Instead I've seen a heck of lot of posts from a select band of individuals who seem to take every opportunity to make jabs and inflammatory comments towards those that don't jump on the Chinese product bandwagon.

It is a competitor of the MP40 (why is the name WP40 by the way? One letter turned upside down.. Excellent differentiation) just like Tunze is a competitor. This is simple. It's also extremely simple to see how the WP40 is an absolute knockoff of a Tunze pump. That IS 100% cheating.

And Ron, I'm calling you out specifically because you have been popping up on random threads hyping these "cheap Chinese knockoffs" so often that one can't help but wonder. Also, you've been promoting these power heads and LEDs in threads with one or two posts, so no, it's not just "defending against the guys who have to put down cheap Chinese junk".

The whole point of these boards is to share knowledge, opinions, and experience in order to learn and help others learn. If there's a product out there that's tied to another company who used to sell lights that caught on fire (Odyssea) and has non-existent customer service, that also sells cheap, copy-of-outstanding products, I want to know about it. Especially when you're combining electricity and water. It's not about a superiority complex or feeling threatened (although, if excellent companies like Tunze or Ecotech go out of business, what's left for Jebao to copy?) it's about sharing information.

Ron, i would just like to point out china doesnt have to follow patient rules there so of course they cant be broken. They could build a exact replica of the pump and not get sued but then again they would have to up the price alot for using quality parts.

Fine, they are direct competitors. Naming the pump a WP40 is called MARKETING and it got everybody's attention didn't it? And if you really feel that being a legal knockoff is cheating... then you have a very slanted view of the market. Makes me wonder what happened to "copying is the sincerest form of flattery"?

And my telling people about new to the market, less expensive, I bought some, tried them and think they are pretty well made, especially given the price, is exactly what you say these boards are for. It's not about shilling for the Chinese. And based on my comments about Jebao as a company, I trust that you will believe me when I say that if my cheap Chinese junk leds catch on fire, or my cheap Chinese junk pump quits working, you'll read about it on these boards.

I actually do believe that Ron, and I also an convinced that if/when you have a major problem you will be the most ardent hater of Chinese knockoff products. I only hope it doesn't cost you your tank to find out.

You do know that jebao and odyssey are not the same company correct. Sure ya did. :headwally:

And I agree with Ron. I could care less about praising this pump. I do however have a huge problem with some people's attitude regarding this.

I would swear buying an ecotech was the pinnacle point in some of these people's lives on ths broad. Lol.

Ron aside from water movement these pumps are different technologies. The problem I have with you is you preach. If someone wants to buy, let's say an MP40, you say they are buying over priced equipment, or they are in the millionaires club and let's not forget the trying to justify spending more.

If I ever said anything like that, I seriously apologize. And I mean that. I will admit that when somebody says they are looking at an Eco Tech or a Tunze, I'll try to tell them (or ask them) if they have considered the Jebao. Not because I'm preaching, far from it, it's just I don't know that they have even heard of Jebao because it's so new to the market place. Sure, those of us in this 'discussion' are getting tired of reading about it (OK at least I am), but most of the hobbyists don't follow that closely (or use the search function)! Heck, the Chinese led thread was split and well over 50 new pages long before I ever looked at it. And now I have Chinese leds over all 4 tank and 1 refugium. So if I sound preachy, I do apologize, seriously, and I will try to tone it down, OK?

On the other hand, yes, I firmly believe that Eco Tech and to a lesser extent Tunze are over priced! And not by just a little bit. That's not preaching, that's just comparing prices. If the Jebao pump is a complete knockoff of the Tunze, and it proves to last for at least several years (that's a question neither of us can answer... but I own one and it looks pretty solidly made to me) and they retail for $75, then how can the same basic pump for $335 not be overpriced? Sure they designed it and they have customer service and that costs, but you can't say it's better quality yet. It may well be, but that point is still open. And if I felt I had paid a premium for any product, I expect quality and customer service. But if I buy a simple commodity, like a simple pump, at a rock bottom price, I consider it a throw away. I don't like Jebao's business approach (what little I know of it), but I like the product OK and I love the price. So I buy Jebao and you buy Tunze or Eco Tech. It's a choice. Why don't we all just let it go and move on. I just want people to know they have a choice because for too long there wasn't any.

Would love to hear about any crappy products. Please fill in. Thanks.

I wouldn't be surprised if jebao and jebo had connections, but to date there isn't any proof of this. We only have speculation.

Not defending either side but for now we have to separate jebo and jebao.
