MP40s or 60s

Was looking into some vortechs for my 7 foot long fish home / aquarium

I wasnt sure if MP40's would be able to produce the flow im looking for to push SPS grow to a new level.

Anyone have MP40s on longer SPS tanks like myself?

Are you finding they are strong enough?

Dimensions: 3" x 2.25" (Dry-Side), 3" x 2.25" (Wet-Side)
Flow Range: 1,000-3,200 GPH
Max Tank Thickness: 0.75"
Tank Size Range: 50-500+ Gallons
Clearance Neede Behind Tank: 3.0"
Power Consumption: 9-28 Watts

I think my koralias are rated more GPH, but not sure if the flow pattern will make the difference

Thanks

your main pump is the "heart" of your system

your main pump is the "heart" of your system

Use returns from main pump to create a gyre (research gyre.)
This water flow (returns directed to overflow/drains along surface) is basic good reef aquarium design and there's no reason not to take full advantage of it. Research eductors/penductors for maximizing flow on returns.

In addition to returns, without any other type of water pumps (CL etc.) you will need at least one MP40 (but two would be better) or one MP60 on a 7ft. long SPS aquarium.

I would think 60s. I have 2 40s for my 100 gallon. Granted, they probably will not be run at 100%, but your tank is BIG! :D If you go 40's, I'd probably consider adding a third to the back wall somewhere. Maybe ask on the Ecotech forum, very helpful people there. Or just call them. They are very friendly and helpful. Was talking to them the other day about upgrading my Radions.

Two MP60's on my 300DD. 6x3 Barebottom SPS.

At one point I also had two MP40's on the back with the MP60's on the sides but it was way over kill.

Look into the jebao wp40, it's been getting alot of great reviews. There's a big thread in the lighting and equipment forum. You can also ditch the controller it comes with and controll it with an apex or reef angel controller. Mines should be here in a few weeks hopefully, if your not in a rush, I could bring it by when it gets here.

Keep opinions and suggestions coming. Great information! Thanks

That sounds good, I should try out those eductors/penductors

Wow, these look like tunzes, but more nice due to built in wave maker and light sensor. At 75 each. I could buy 4 for the price of one MP40. hmmmmmm

Im quite impressed after watching youtube video.

I have 2 mp40w on my 150 gallon 6 feet tank and at full power it is blasting hard no dead spots.

Do you use wave feature? What setting do you use mostly?

The price for a MP60 really annoys me. To the point where I dont want to give the company business. lol

What in the world about that really costs 800.00 to make. I really want to support the US, but common people. Thats ridiculous

Im in wrong business ( ;

Did you buy 2 of them? I will need some serious movement. I may pull trigger too.

Where did you buy? Fish street?

One pump pushes 300 gallons. Its a WP40, not 60

i bought one for my 2 ft cube which i will have to dial down. i got in on a group buy with the guys on the orlando forum. alot of people have ordered from fish street without any issues though and i believe if you type in "FISH STREET'' as a coupon you save a little more. The Orlando guys will be putting together a group buy for the wp25 sometime soon. you could also join in when they start it to get the wp40. They will also be releasing the wp25 sometime soon, you could probably add to of those to your back wall but that might be over kill lol. From what i have read i think 2 would be enough for your tank, worst case scenario just order another one, but i dont think you would need it. Just a heads up, the light sensor is hit or miss. some of the issues with the sensor have been resolved by just providing a minimal amount of light to it. This has been the only real issue with it. Oh and also if you do run into a issues i dont think customer service will help although not many have had to deal with them.
For the price you cant really go wrong, i've been following the main the thread from beginning and the majority of people that have bought it love it.
I just checked and mines should ship out Monday so hopefully ill have it in 2 weeks or sooner.

How much? I may get 2 for back up.

Use it in else mode which is similar to reef crest mode. I just looked at the last video and im a little nervous to see whats gonna happen in my cube lol.

Mike,

I have 2 of the WP-40's on my 210. Plenty of flow. I have one in else mode (similar to Vortech reefcrest) and one in W1 which is the classic wavemaker mode. I absolutely love them. I am sure you will be happy with them. The only issue I have with them is the light sensor works strange (its been documented) low light sets it in low intensity but no light is like full daylight. Your welcome to stop by and check them out if you would like.

Two of them came to $192 shipped with 2 extra sensors. code gives you 3% off.

Mathematically one could buy 10 of them for price of one MP60

I didnt want to say it. ( :

You you about this right? :
The absolute easiest, no soldering way to get speed control on these are the universal power supplies like this one http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Adap...c+power+supply

The Jebao power supply is connected via a computer AC cord, so you just swap this one in instead. You adjust the voltage sliders to control speed, much like you would with a Tunze power supply. If you want much less flow, you slide it down to 15v or so. Since the pump is DC and voltage controlled, it wont damage it and works great. The actual Tunze power supplies work with this too if you already have one.

Mike, I'm wondering how you will be able to sync it with apex without using it's natural controller.

dang, it would have been nice if everyone ordered together to avoid that big shipping prices.
