MP40w & acjr? switching gyre flow

I really want to get a gyre going in my tank that switches directions every 15 min. Is it bad to hook my mp40w to my ac jr. and switch it off every 15 minutes or so?

google is giving me nothing useful.

I'm not sure I'd feel confident doing that. I'd be worried the wetside would be more prone to falling off in that situation??? I dunno, just spit-balling. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?

Why not set up the gyre and break it up intermittently with some PH's that are known to tolerate an on/off cycle like MJ's? I think Gary M does something like that....

I'm not up to speed on the Vortech to ACjr interface and what's recommended.
I think I saw some sort of conrol module sold by Neptune for this purpose but don't quote me- maybe stashudave knows more about this.
I might be wrong but I believe the newest Vortech control module allows for turning their pumps way down for extended periods of time.....

Neptune does have a new module for controlling the Vortech's but it's only compatible with the Apex line, not a Jr. Even with that I don't think the interface ever really stops the pump, just slows it down and speeds it up depending on the profile selected.
So the question remains... should you turn it on and off for extended periods... I wouldn't with mine, basically because of the fall off principal and none of their profiles do it. Mine always starts rough and slips a little when it's off for any reason ( MP10) so I would be worried that it would fall and just not work. That being said I'd be interested in what Vortech says......

Hop over to the ecotech forum here on RC and ask. Its in the sponsor section I think.

Theres a built in pulse mode that starts/stops every so often but it only goes up to a minute

Thanks all i will def look into it more, and get back.

Good idea lol Maybe i will try the long pulse and see if i can get something going. Maybe with a timed koralia evo.
