not only is the u tube mod good so the miccrobubbles stay in the skimmer but if u think about it now u have more bubbles in ur skimmer rather then out in ur sump doing nothing.
yes u can :)

How does the u tube effect the fine tunning of the becket? I picked the parts up to do it last month:) but I did not want to mess with perfection. The only question I have is how offten do you need to clean the becket it self?

I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You should see the level in the skimmer drop when the beckett is clogged and need cleaning. That is the only time I would clean mine.

when i start it to think about the mod i used 1.25 u tube & it caused back pressure & it effected the skimmer, but when i used 1.5 U tube there was no back pressure just flow going out of the tube & up the neck & i was able to keep my skimmer's settings just like they where before, u can use a micron filter bag to help with the bubbles but like i have in the past i believe in feeding the whole tank.
Errefic is right if it aint broke dont fix it, but yet we are all ways tinkering with our tanks to make things better, this hobby is an obsession !

Cool. Thanks. What diameter did you use for each Utube, 1"? 1 1/4"? And you saw no backpressure on the pump? (wouldn't think so with two becketts on a genx 55, would you?)

RGibson,

That was it.... The pump was the problem, Never took a pump apart before so now that I know how it works and was pretty easy I will do it more often. I couldn't believe the build up of crud in there. My water level jumped a lot when I plugged it back in.

Thanks,
J-

each Utube is 1.5
no back pressure with 1.5
dont use 1 1/4 use 1.5

So they both fit, do either require the use of "street" L's?

So what I am having a problem with now is that my bubble lvl is dropping in my skimmer after a day or sometimes after 12 hours or so.

The skimmer is skimming very well for the first 12 hours or so, and then things slowly start to slow down and lower. Every time I clean it the skimmer starts skimming great again? Do I really need to clean this thing twice a day? Or am I missing something?

Sellout: I had that problem and tracked it down to the humidity. Not sure if you have the same issue. I plumbed the air intake to the outside and have not had the issue in several months. I've had other issues, but not that one any more:D

Can you tell me what you are cleaning and are you using just water to clean the skimmer?

Yup, just water and a paper towel.

Humidity? But why would it work great for 12 hours or so and then start having problems?

If you are still running the cotton, it gets wet and restricts the air. If not... I'm not exactly sure:) But it did work for me... And the skimmer is really quiet now that the air intake is outside...

I have by air for my skimmer from the out side and like Hop said it will help the skimmer,it all so means that the air inside our homes is not the best.

What is the water level inside the skimmer with the air off?

I have the skimmer sitting next to my sump. The water lvl with the skimmer turned off is about 1-2" below the black connectors in my first tube. (does that make sense?).

When my skimmer is turned on I have the air valve opened about 1-2 turns max. And my water lvl is just about at the top of the union.

Like I said, it works good when I first turn it on and for the next 12 hours.
