Mrs. Lunchbucket's new green BTA

Well just got a green BTA because we couldn't get a RBTA. It looked nice at the fish store from what I in my limited anemone experience could tell. It had been there for 2-4wks and I had looked at it on multiple occasions. Always filled up and looked nice.

We put it in last night where we wanted it hoping that it woudn't move. Well guess what it did It moved from a nice ledge I had all picked on in the center right under the lights w/ some gentle blowing flow on it to the bottom right side (another place we had thought about putting it). It has wrapped its self around a nub on the rick and looks pretty cozy there.

the color looks washed out from what it is in person. It has a green hue to it not white

What does everyone think? Look ok? Is that an ok spot for him? Will he get enough light? I plan to feed him 1-2x's per week. When should the first time I feed him be?

We hope to get our gold stripe maroon clowns next week about Thursday or so. The anemone will have time to settle in before they start rubbing it.

Be careful of that maxijet strainer. It WILL tear your BTA up (eventually, this is not a might, it will happen). You might want to consider getting some of that black sponge that they make sponge filters out of and cutting a hole in it to accomodate the MJ intake grill, or perhaps buy a pre-made sponge filter.

I agree with Anemone, the powerhead is a death sentence waiting to happen. You can put the sponge on it as he suggested or you can put vinyl window screening over it with cable ties, or anything else that lets it work and keeps it from puree'ing the 'nem. But please do cover it and anything else like that (overflow, pump intake, etc.). It may well move around the tank awhile until it finds the spot it likes best.

It's a bit bleached but otherwise looks good. You know the routine, right? Feed it 1/4" pieces of meaty food daily until it's got good color then regularly as it seems to need.

Anemone - Think it will move around enough to get caught in the stainer? Hmm. Maybe an egg crate box around it would be a better option or are the squares too big for it and it will get through.

I like the rock work. That very right piece where the anemone is on is one big piece! It is HUGE!

So how does the BTA look? Think it will stay there? He hasn't moved since early (3 or 4am) this morning. Lights are due to come on in about 30min.

Anything else that I should do for him?

I'm not Anemone but I can answer this from my own experience. There's no guarantee it will move around enough to get sucked in, but more importantly there's no guarantee it *won't* do so. Why risk it?

Egg crate is too large, it can get through it if it wants. Gutter guard is too large as well. I set up an experiment to see if bta's could/would go through gutter guard (had them in a plastic frame completely covered with it, inside a plant basket that I knew they couldn't get through in case they made it out of the gutter guard.) Next morning, 3 bta's in plant basket, none inside gutter guard.

Sonja - thanks! I had a prefilter sponge for a Mag 950 that I just chopped up and placed over the MJ screen intake for now. Any good looking options out there?

Maybe a piece of 1" pvc w/ a coupler to go over the MJ inlet w/ small holes drilled in it? A LOT of small holes?

The anemone look ok to you guys? Think that is a decent spot where it stopped moving?

It looks relatively healthy, but it could be a lot better, IMO. It's a bit bleached, but given some time and some good care it should be gorgeous.

Have you fed it at all?

I fed it about 5min after I put it in. I thought I remember hearing that if you feed them they are more likely to stay put. The food stuck and the mouth ate it I think. Couldn't quite get a view on it and I went to be afterwards.

Should I try feeding today now that it has settled?

I agree. And it could go from where it's at to the strainer in a few hours if it decided to move, so it's good you have the strainer covered.

Like everyone else, I think your BTA is a bit bleached, but should recover with feeding, stable water parameters and time. Every other day is more than often enough to feed. I usually recommend 2-3 times a week for those who need to target feed (I don't target feed anymore).

Well lets all hope that it makes a 110% recovery. I want a healthy beautiful anemone.

I'll soak some food in some selcon for feeding it later.

Sounds like it's in good, caring hands! Best of luck, and try to get that intake covered...I know it's a bit unsightly, but it's a lot prettier than a shredded anemone.

Slakker - It is good hand IMO. I'm anal w/ my SPS tank so this anemone is in good hands

Sounds like that would make it easier to get to, for feeding it. More pictures! Keep us updated on it, pix or no.

I agree with everyone else that it's a little bleached, but otherwise looks healthy and should do well with feedings and TLC. My RBTA looked far worse when I brought it home.

The only thing I would addd is that once the nem gets acclimated to your light and starts getting healthier, it will walk some more before it settles. I would wait for a month or so before adding any prized corals that might get smurfed.
