My 120 filled mostly with SPS

Your T5 Led combination has made my new lighting decision clear. I have decided on going with 20k BML XB and super actinic BML XB LED strips with 4 T5's. I know you did a diy led but do you think the LED selected would be sufficient, and what would you Reccomend for the T5 bulbs. My only experience is with Mh and LED. Thanks! Your tank was absolutely amazing by the way!

Hey, sorry for the late post, I haven't been around too much lately... I'm not familiar with those LEDs, the ones I had/have were all Cree Royal Blues, you may want to do some searching to see if those are comparable. The T5 bulbs I had most recently on this tank were 2 ATI coral plus and 2 ATI aquablue special, but I can't remember for certain. Hard to believe I shut this tank down over a year ago now, I can only imagine in my minds eye where it could have been if given another year... I feel like it was really just entering into its own when we moved.

It's no big deal I saw the thread was kind of old. But a fellow RC member sent me a link to your build to show me your LED/T5 combo and how your tank looked and it completely blew me away. I have the LED setup squared away it's the T5 combination I was looking at. As I have always been an MH then LED guy I have never had T5's it never made sense with my nanos and 180.

Thank you for the information.

Hey Jordan! Good to see another Canadian here! Where are you located? Ontario I assume since you said DV helped you set it up? What's Darryl up to these days anyway? I used a FTS of his tank in one of my articles in Reef Hobbyist Magazine, and then pretty much never heard a peep from him since.

That sucks that you had to tear your tank down, though I'm looking forwards to the restart. I tore down my mature 90-gallon SPS tank a couple years ago, and just restarted. Restarting has it's pros and cons. You get a chance to do things differently, but it also means you have to start all over and new tanks suck!

I hadn't looked at the thread or my last FTS in quite some time, it was really nice to go back and take a look at it again, I had forgotten how much time I had put into the tank, and I'm pretty proud of where it got to just before I tore it down (moreso now given that I've been trying to start up a different tank, and I've forgotten all the challenges!). I hear you on the smaller tanks, I really like my MH/LED combo that I have at present as a pendant, completely different look. I'm still in the school of not wanting to go full LED.

Yes, I think I appreciate this 120 more now than ever, given the challenges of the new build, getting things to mature, balance out, etc. Especially moving to a much smaller water volume, it is much more difficult to control. I really think we do things backwards, as a beginner especially with SPS its probably better to have a larger tank first, then a smaller tank second, given the margin for error is thinner!

I am located in London. We have a pretty impressive number of hobbyists in SW Ontario, with Toronto obviously being the major hub.
