My 280g Custom upgrade.....

Watching from afar I could not live there, good luck and if it works out I'm sure your new build will be as fun to watch as this one has been!

Thanks Muttley! We've met with our realtor and we are very pleased with the numbers they have us. Now I just need my firm to sign off on this and we can move forward. We've been looking at different floor plans for a house we would build and I'm thinking about doing a room divider tank.

Hey Steve,

Good Luck.

Good luck buddy, I'm hoping to move south soon too! I don't like the snow
What kind of work do you do if I may ask?
Tell your boss there is a great market down there and a new tank big by work is all it'll take to get you to move!:D

Some of us are stuck here for a while...at least until the kids are out of school.

Taxes and car insurance in the Garden State are simply ridiculous. It's bad enough in South Jersey. I'd be pulling my hair out if I lived in northern New Jersey.

Good luck on the move Steve. I hope to see this new tank some day and christen it with some starter frags!

central jersey and northern jersey are hard places to live. I lived in Monmouth county until the hurricane. and ill admit for ya, the cost of living is beyond absurd. 1/3 of my paycheck went to taxes..everything is mucho expensive

We used to say that we got a lot for what we paid in taxes but not anymore. Our town got hit hard by the hurricane and I was very fortunate to have suffered no damage but the storm has changed the town signigicantly. We've already been told our taxes are going to up and they just announced that they will be cutting some of the programs in our school. The first program they are cutting is industrial arts in the high school. The town next to us has already cut their music and art classes in the elementary school. I work in NYC so I have additional commuting costs and those are going up too.

yea I was a victim of the storm. complete loss. but schools in my old area where making cuts also. hell they even shut one school down to consolidate..ive heard taxes are goin to increase to good amount in most areas along the shore that got damaged....shame, fortunately for me I was single with no kids and was able to relocate easily..stay strong and keeping fighting the good fight...

Oh I know brother. After college I worked in Manhattan and commuted from Hoboken. After I got married my wife and I bought a 1 bedroom condo for almost twice the price of what I paid for my current 4 bedroom house in a great school district in South Jersey. I'm born and raised in New Jersey, but I'll be looking to get out of here as soon as my last child is off to college. I just can't see the point living here any more than necessary.

In my next life I want to be a Texan!

haha im a fan of Colorado or something like that. I like the season changes, being a jersey boy, I gotta have my summer and winter... I don't mind the heat but love the snow...

Thanks Jose. We are getting closer to making a decision. My company has tentatively given me the ok to switch offices so my family and I will be going down to SC in two weeks so I can meet with the manager of the office I would work out of, take a tour of the schools my kids would going to and meet some of the teachers in those schools. We've already started organizing the house to get ready for the forsale sign on the lawn.

Thanks guys! Its definitely a big decision to make so we are taking it slowly. So back to reefing for now. After 5 weeks of having T5's back on the tank, everything is looking great again. I am seeing breakout growth of coraline algae, the sps that I have moved back in the tank are doing great and showing new growth. I recently picked up some Rod's food and cant believe the response I am getting from that.

I did have an unpleasant find tonight....a puddle of water under my live rock tank. Apparently the flex PVC fitting into the bulkhead has sprung a leak. Now I am used to leaks but this was in a really bad spot....very close to the wall and on the other side of the wall is glued down hardwood flooring. As soon as I saw the puddle my heart stopped and I ran around the other side to see if there was any damage....sure enough one plank of flooring has a bubble in it now. I have water sensors just not in that area.....murphys law right. I am going to try and apply additional pvc cement to see if that will take of it. For now I just have isolated the tank from the main system and put some powerheads and a heater in the tank until I can fix it on Wed.

I will try to get some new pics posted of the corals soon.

Congrats on the possible move buddy! Also on the great response to your T5's I'm happy for you on that but sad for me.... I'm going with LEDs from my old tank on my new one and I'm torn between switching back to MH or T5. I'm hoping the LEDs work out for me......crosses fingers

Sorry to hear about the leak though buddy

Thanks Corey. I wouldnt worry about the LEDs as I still believe they work and can grow corals.....I just made a bad decision to buy the one that I had. I went back to T5's because I had success in my previous system with them and was experiencing success in my frag tank with them. After dropping nearly $5k on the light I had and selling it for less than 50% of what I paid for it, I wasnt ready to drop another big chunk of money on lights at this time. Last year was a very expensive year for me with all of the corals I lost, changing over the rock and eventually changing over the light. If we move, I've already decided that the new tank will have the new ATI PM LED/T5 fixture that just came out.
