I will see what I can do to save these guys. I have some frozen and freeze dried cyclopeeze that I can try to feed them with. All four of them are now huddled together in a little cave so hopefully if I cant catch them I can at least squirt some food in there for them and they will be safe from predators.
 
I'd strongly suggest using the frozen, over the freeze dried, until they are feeding aggressively/consistently. Also, when feeding, be careful not to startle them and subsequently sending them fleeing from their protective territory.

Another option, Steve, is to take some epoxy, roll it into a ball, smoosh it against a flat surface so the bottom is flat while the rest retains the original spherical shape. Then, insert some thin straws, or other similar reef safe material, into the epoxy ball all over on the spherical side ...

The purpose of this is to artificially recreate the long spines of an urchin ... What this does is provides the protective territory/safe haven for the juvenile Bangaii, as found in its natural element !

The predators typically cannot get within the spines, while the Bangaiis have a decent sized area to live within. Just make sure to make the spines a nice length in order to provide this protection/area. HTH, best of luck with them, Steve :D

I was able to find 4 of them swimming around the tank. I was totally not prepared for this so I dont think there will be a high survival rate.

Steve - Hopefully all is still well with the generator. Congrats on being a new dad...LOL. I thought about getting banggai cardinals for that exact reason. They start off pretty small and before you know it you have some little fish you can see. My buddy uses coralreefdoc's suggestion of a surrogate urchin and has raised quiet a few babies.
 
A Long Week.....

A Long Week.....

What a week this has been. The first generator that I bought stopped producing power after 36 hrs of use. Thanks to my very good friend on here....Alex T, I was able to get the tank back up and running after being down for about 7 hrs. Alex's power came back on Tuesday night so he let me borrow his 2k watt generator. I am very lucky that my house suffered no damage and I am very lucky that my only hardship right now that are without full power. Many people in my town have lost everything and the devastation to the beach here is unimaginable. It will be a long time before its back to what it was. A couple of days ago town officials said it would be 2 weeks before we get power back but now that has changed and they are just saying that they just dont know at this point. So, with another storm coming next week I went out and was able to find a bigger generator to provide more power to the house. We now have heat, lights, TV, refrigerator and I am able to power everything on my system again. All of the fish are accounted for but majority of my corals have suffered significantly this week. I am not complaining because I can replace corals where many people cant replace lives of loved ones or the memories that have been washed away. Its going to take me some time to get sps back in the tank again but I am not giving up yet.

To anyone that is in my area and has been impacted by Sandy, I hope you and your families are safe and sound. If you need warmth, food or a place to store some fish as I have room in my 80g frag tank.....send me a pm.
 
Steve, I'm glad that your home is ok and most of all family. You have the right attitude about it and hope your power is restored soon. Just look at it that you might have a few extra Fedex Fridays, right?

I am glad everything worked out for the best. My family are in the nearby states as they lost power also. Thank god for email and texting as that was the only way we could keep in touch with each other. I am glad your family and your tank are doing well. Like you said, you can replace fish and corals, but not family or friends.

No need to thank me. If everybody on these forums doesn't stick together in trying times, then every piece of advice we offer and receive is for naught. There's no way I could have sat idly while I had power without offering up life support for someone who really needed it when my power was restored.

I've learned a lot more from these forums than I'll ever be able to give back. I think until someone goes through this type of disaster, they never truly grasp how alone and "stripped" of a feeling it is. I'm not talking about our tanks either.

I'm glad everything worked out, and hope anyone reading this outside the New Jersey/New York area never has to experience this feeling and loss.

Besides, I look at it as insurance for future frag trades....:beer:
 
A reefing family is a unique family. It is a blessing that in this time of need that we can come together, in good or bad, and look out for each other. That is something special.

Crazy Beaver...hope all is well in Ellas. My full name is Alexandros Tjoumakaris, and my wife is from Chios. I'm in Greece every 3 years or so to visit family. I would guess the only real danger there would be the Super volcano under Santorini (Thera). I hope we never live to see its' anger. I'd love to see your tank one day. In fact, after all this storm mess is sorted, I believe I'll be needing a vacation.

You can find a Greek anywhere around the globe!!Hope everything is good there for all of you and get back to normal asap!

We have a good amount of earthquakes , a few times had been very intense but we don't worry about storms of that size!

We can certainly arrange a meeting next time you will be in Athens!Tank will be up and running hopefully by Christmas time!

The power is back on!!!!! Happy to report no fish fatalities other than my sons goldfish.
