My 300 gal marineland DD Build

Taking a chisel and flushcutting them to the stand. :)
Once thats done nobody will notice them.

Creetin- Love the Marineland Deep aquariums, yours is coming along quite nicely. Can't wait to see it once the livestock are introduced. Continued luck with your project.

Thank you all. The skimmer was alot better off last night, Hopefully i can start her up today.

Wow looking good so far Creetin. How many # of sand did it take for you to fill your tank up that much? I like the open look of your setup, I bet that's a lot of rocks. But it looks like not enough in that 300g tank :).

Thanks i was going for the open look. I wanted to have a nice area for fish to swim and more room for sps to grow.
Once the sps fll out it will look more filled. Plus its open enough to keep flow thru and keep detritus from building up.
Its about 300+ lbs of sand.

nice thread, just got one question...did you put anything on your stand before you put your tank on it? from the picture you posted, it looks like there's nothing in between. I'm not sure about the weight of your total water volume, but I'm sure that the weight will be on the 2 beams in the middle of your tank....and that's the scary part! be very very careful with that ! I really hope that you have put some kind of flat sheet of wood on it before you put your tank on...that way, the overall weight will be scattered and it gives you much more support for overall tank weight. Please correct me if I'm wrong,...when I looked at your picture I thought I would have to ask.

I'm not sure...I know that he's putting a lot of time and work in to this tank and thread...I don't wanna be a party pooper or something but I mentioned it because I know how hard it was to start a big tank and how much more difficult it would be to tear it down, especially at this stage of setting up a reef tank.

not sure if these pictures would help...I've saved them in my computer before I planned my 420G.

Well knock on wood!!! LOL
I have had glass tanks for years, and never used anything underneath.
I was told this long ago by a tank manufacturer. the outer edges are only to be supported The bottom should not get any. He went on to tell me that thats how most cracks occur when the tank rests unevenly on the bottom of the tank. :)

BTW theres a half inch gap inbetween the supports you see there running on the bottom of the tank.
Thats what you are referring to isnt it?

You mean there's a gap in the middle underneath your tank? and the middle of the bottom part of the tank is half an inch floating and only the 4 edges are actually on your wooden stand? is this what you are saying? oh my gosh! , knock on wood X 2 !!

may be i am just being paranoid, I've heard the same thing from the glass tank making people. Well, if you say its ok, then it's ok !

Heres a couple new pics now that the dust has settled a bit. :)
I added 3 fish and a hand full of corals. Not many.

Heres the sump area and the new GEO 624. It just fits!! Its 28 inches tall not 29 so i am a happy camper!! The bubbleking is skimming away. :)

Heres the 3 happy fish. Purple tang, orange shoulder tang and regal angel from the philipines. He is eating great and not shy.

looking good, Creetin what type of bulbs you're using? yesterday
i went to the lfs and price out the same tank with the stand only $2500.00. They were suggesting going with a ecosystem filtration
sump at $999.00 using Miracle Mud, sounds good, using no skimmer, but i figure i can get my own sump and beat that price.

Thats a pretty good price. Does it include canopy?
I would do your own sump out of a glass tank, or have MRC or another acrylic place make it for you to specs. Also dunno if the marineland stands allow for stanchions to be removable so you have to account the sump size for that if they are not removable.
All mine are because i had it built for me.
I am a carpenter by trade but i do specialty ceilings and sound panels. I can build it, But my time is worth more to me plus i would have spent more than half on wood, and i know i suck at staining!

Look into having a custom built stand, I know i saved quite a bit going custom, and all real oak was used.

Ok putting in the t-5's in today 3 80w with icecap 660 009 ballast.
2 blue plus and one pure actinic to add some BLING!
Tank is cycled nicely, Had a minor diatom outbreak, But more GFO took care of that. Dosed another bottle of biospira, and added some snails and such. I have to make an order from reeftopia soon.
BK has been pulling out some nog! I have yet to fine tune the geo reactor, Its been a pita so far, and now the co2 tank is empty. Refilling that up today.
Otherwise i am happy. I have a hand full of sps and all are getting great colors so far. A couple of sps like my yellow tort and bonsai is loving the strong light area's. Millies too!
I'll post pics when i get the t-5's up.

Heres some pics, Got the t-5's up and the rest of the livestock.
Now just to get some more sps and a few zoa's.
