My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

I was planning on placing the shed against the side wall of my back yard. The city zoning says you cannot place a structure any closer than 2 feet off the wall. That may not seem like a big deal, its only 2 feet but the space I have between my house and the wall now is 12 feet. I planned on having it against the wall, then the shed is 8 feet wide and I would still have 4 feet to walk by the shed to the rest of the yard. If I move it out the two feet to comply with the zoning I have 2 feet on both side which is not very easy to walk by. My options are to put it against the house(which will require moving all the sprinkler valves for my yard (4) and moving a hose spigot stubbed out of the block in my house. I'm currently trying to figure out how I can get by with less space in the shed and where I can kit it best.

Dave, PM sent on your shed.

Pictures as promised. I forgot to mention that the AC guy installed the exhaust fan that vents to the outside as well. I think I have decided that the best bet for the shed is against the house, with a catch. It will be placed in front of the window and I will drywall over the window so you wont be able to see it from the inside. I still need to convince the wife on this part though. She is afraid the room will be too dark without the window. I think she will be wrong as their is a window about 8 feet up the wall that will still be open as well as 4 solar tubes bringing in a bit of light.

Here is where the shed will hopefully go and the window it will cover

Hey, are those strainers at the base of the tank? I would hate to think what would happen if you had a power failure.

If you are worried about the shed covering up too much window just try putting some foil up for a couple days to get a feeling for it before you drywall it up. Also keep in mind if you decide to sell your house someday, covering up a window would not comply with residential housing codes. Every inhabitable space requires an accessible window for fire escape, but should be a fairly easy fix if you leave the framing up around the window.

scratch what I said about it not being to code. You will have a door to the outside so you wont technically need an accessible window.

There are still 2 other windows at ground level in the room. I would drywall over the window for the time I had the tank and then remove the drywall when it was time to sell. I'm going to put something over the window for a few days like suggested and see how it goes. I'm going to wait for a sunny day though :)

The strainers are for the closed loop, not to the sump.

looks very nice Ryan, things are progressing well, I need to get over there again soon

Your welcome at any time, BTW I have a heater for you, Thanks!

It is looking great so far. As far as the shed, why not go with a longer, narrower shed to save room on the side? Chances are you will want to put most of the equipment on the wall closest to the house and will only use the wall farthest away to store equipment/supplies. With a good storage rack system at the end it will take care of that as well. I can't wait to see it done.

I'm about a week away from getting water in mine so hopefully I can buy some more frags from you in a couple months. Keep up the nice work Ryan!

Made a bit of progress with the drywall on the bedroom side.

Everything is looking great! I'll bet the wife loved seeing the drywall getting torn off the wall, LOL.
If I may make a recommendation on the glass window in the living room , why not look into some place making you a custom stained glass picture with a reef or fish scene, that way you would still get light in the room and not have to look at the shed outside.
Is all the equiptment going in the shed outside?
Are you going with a LED lighting system so you don't have to worry about heat above the tank?
