My 70 Gallon Zeovit Tank

Love the scape but the efflo should go near the bottom dont you think....once it gets big it will cast a huge shadow up there.

Thanks Darryl... I hear you, the efflo was recently placed in it's position to get huge amounts of light, the color capability is there with this coral, however has not yet met it's potential... I would love nothing more than to see that coral grow to occupy the entire side of the tank...lol.. Those that hang underneath the shadow are mainly lps and sps that do not require the intensity of the halide that is the main source of lighting... I do however have 6 t5s that give good light in addition which help to provide supplemental lighting to those who do not get the love of the halide....

Update:
I took vacation starting last Weds, and on Thurs noticed that the fuge was bowing, not good considering I was heading out of town the next morning for a long weekend... So, I decided to take it down, then after some additional thought, I decided to also remove the DT's sandbed as well. I had used bb in the past with great success, the tank was cloudy, I had cyano all over the sand, just struggling to be honest:( So before I left, I had began noticing tissue loss on my Pearberry, that is what really pushed me to give one final chance to this tank, I really have been on the verge breaking this tank down lately. When I returned Sunday, I in fact did lose the Pearlberry, but the water was crystal clear, the skimmer full, everything looking otherwise great despite my loss. I have had this entire week to dedicate to getting things on track, and must finally say that colors, coral health, cyrstal clear water, are all taking place right now, and I think it is suffice to say I have finally become happy with my tank again...

With that said, it is easy to get lost in my never-ending approach to coral health and coloration, specifically the later... So, here is equipment, specs, and husbandry to document my tank's journey, and where it is to date...

Equipment
1. 70 Gallon Marinland Cube(30x30x18")
2. 20 Gallon Long Sump(custom made)
3. Eheim 1262 as return pump
4. I-Tech 100 Cone Skimmer
5. 2 Little Fishies 150 Reactor(500ml NP Biopellets w/mj1200)
6. Kent Reactor(KZ Carbon w/ Rowas on top in sock w/mj900)
7. Tunze 1055 x2 on multi controller
8. Tunze 1045 and Korrila 2 for supplement flow
9. 2 Nova Extreme fixtures with 2 bulbs(Geis Act+ x2 and KZ Coralife x2)
10. Aquatinics 250 watt halide(SE Radium 20k) and 2x t5s Geis Act+)
11. ACJR controlling lights, cooling, and heating

Husbandry
1. NP Biopellets for ULNS
2. Rowas and KZ GAC in reactor(water clarity and PO4 reduction)
3. Fish feedings 3 times per day, Rod's, Mysis, Brine, Pellets, and Coral Vibrance in AM
4. 20 Micron Sock changed every other day
5. Aquamedic doser to dose Kalk+ by BW for makeup water(1.5gallon loss per day) dosed every 5 minutes for 45 seconds to make up exact loss...
6. KZ Coral Vitalizer every other night at 3 drops
7. KZ AAHC every 3 days during feeding
8. KZ Coral Snow 2 times per week at 2ml
9. Start2 and Bak 1-2 times per week for ULNS boost
10. KZ K Balance Strong at 2 times per week 2ml
11. KZ B Balance at 2 times per week 2ml
12 KZ Pohls Extra at 2 times per week 2ml
13. Sponge Power at 1-2 times per week 1-2 drops
14. KZ Zeo-Spur at 1 time per week 2 drops
15. Weekly water changes, just converted to ESV salts

Not complete zeovit, but a hybrid approach to hopefully some great coloration.
Thanks for looking:)

Here is a new pic...
Thanks,

No more stones Mark, they accompanied with start2 are the essential building blocks in their ULNS. I need something less time consuming to get and stay there. I have gone from bad to almost gone with the following algaes...cyano, dinos, hair, and bubble. I now run bio pellets in a reactor and rowas and gac in another. The outlet of the np biopellets leads to the input of my skimmer, very little passes by the skimmer. The blue bottles are really for fun at this point, I don't dose religiously, but do use their products almost daily in some capacity. I also have ramped up fish feedings:)

Cheers,

Your bare bottom is everything I thought it would be Perry.. :)

Thanks Chris, lol...
I think going bb is where everything began to turn around. Algaes, mostly cyano and dinos were annoying the heck out of me, cyano dating back to my previous setup... Hair and bubble were litterally of no concern. In exactly 1 week, 95% cyano gone, 95% dinos gone, 85% reduction in HA, and bubble algae now becoming very dark, clusters are less sporadic, and I see more in the water column. Corals are displaying more PE, the algae on the glass every 3 days instead of every day. I think it is the combo of biopellets and rowas doing their work as well as bb and no place for detritus buildup, you know, like in the sand.....lol... Fingers crossed on this one, I will continue to update progress and with pics. My hopes are to eventually have the entire bottom glass with encrusting corals, chalices, and other various lps and sps attaching to the glass. We will have to wait and see what happens...
Cheers,

oh no Perry, you lost the pearlberry. It's a sad day.

Glad everything is looking up though...hang in there.

Thanks for the kind words Darryl:)
It was a sad day, I don't know whether to keep it's skeleton or not...:(
The current look is to highlight the efflo, humilus, and seasons greetings as they are mature colonies worthy of display. I will eventually replace the Pearlberry, but did acquire a nice small colony of Miami Orchid last week, this will be my ultimate test, getting those to color up is quite demanding...wish me luck:)
Regards,

I saw a SWEET Miami Orchid at the Aquarium at The Pier in St Pete when we went there to watch the fireworks. I was talking to one of the guys that worked there and he told me that ORA donated several frags to them and one was that Orchid. Purple as could be.. Very impressive actually. First one i've seen that looked good.

I actually picked this one up on Sunday last week at CC in Tampa:) Chris, I will be in Tampa in a couple of weeks, I would love to stop by and see your tank, I must say, when you put that 90 up for sale, I started to get the shakes with desire of updgrade...lol... Hope you find a buyer, that is one smoking deal...

looks great Perry.. So how do you like the ESV salt, I'm thinking of ordering a 200g box.. What does the ALK test at is my only concern, RC is testing at 12DKH but with a 10% WC per week I don't see a jump, a big WC is the only thing I'm Scared of...

What's up Dominic:)
So far I really like the ESV salt, I tested it with Lamotte Alk test and got a reading of 3.07 meg, and I only do 5 gallons a week on my 70 gallon w/10 more gallons in the sump, so not to worry for me. I like the mixing part, it is super easy. My tank was quite receptive to the water change, things were perking up after my 1st 5 gallon change:) HTH's...

just got the Hanna Pocket Photometer today....
Drum roll.....
0.00 after 3 tests...= :)

Pretty nice having PurlyH2O 10 minutes away, they had 20 in stock... Also picked up a dual stage reactor for carbon and gfo, however only running gfo(rowas) in it. I may pull offline and test to see if NP Biopellets can keep up with PO4 demands. Not brave enough yet, perhaps after all bubble algae dies off, btw, almost all of it is clear and dying off at this point, a spot or 2 of hair and a tad of cyano. This is great news, I have battled nuissance algaes for WAY too long... Looks like the combo of NP Biopellets, GFO, and going BB are paying off. Corals have started showing insane PE, hopefully some great coloration to follow...we will have to see...

Hey Perry,
How is the tank doing? update pics are always a woot... :D
quick question,
2. Rowas and KZ GAC in reactor(water clarity and PO4 reduction)
are you running both lose in the reactor, both in media bags or one in a media bag and not the other?... ..
