My 90 Gallon SPS tank journal (pics included)

YOU have been ignored!
A few people have asked me to post more information on my tank so I thought I would take this opportunity to document my tank since it is fairly young, right now about 5 mos or so. I've been keeping reefs for about 3 years now and learned a few things that I tried to incorporate into this new one. Here's a few pics of my setup.

My tank specs are:
90 gallon standard dimension acrylic tank I had built by Premium Aquatics acrylic tank manufacturer. The tank is 3/4" acrylic with totally open top and an external overflow box. I've had problems with the hang over the back overflows and I don't like the boxes taking up realestate in the tank:
<img src="http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c16/cwegescheide/P1010140.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">

Circulation is provided by 2 6100s on a 7095 controller. I also have a 1500 p/h return pump throttled back about 50% for a return.
Lighting is my latest addition (my Christmas present to myself) is a Giesemann 2 x 250w HQI w/t5 actinic supplementation. This is a REALLY nice unit. The light is a very bright white with a slight hint of blue. I might try some pheonix 14K's in a few months to see how they look.

I recently purchased a EuroReef 6-2 skimmer. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. I spent the same money on a Turbofloater and it doesnt hold a candle to the Euro.

I have a Geo Ca reactor that I have had for a few years to supply the Ca and Alk. Recently I have had a problem maintaining a constant drip rate of effluent due to a worn out powerhead it has sortof screwed up my Ca/Alk parameters a little bit so I decided to plumb the feed direct from my return to also feed my reactor:
<img src="http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c16/cwegescheide/P1010138.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">

I have approx 100lbs of Marshall Island rock in the tank. It was totally lifeless when I put the tank together 5 months ago since I moved to Tampa. I left the rock on my balcony in Tampa for two months waiting for the new tank. Its starting to get some coraline growth in the past month or so but not too much.

I work out of town M-F so everything has to be automated to the hilt. I've got the lights on timers and a float switch and a rubbermaid tub for my RO/DI top off water. I ran carbon and phosban from day 1 inside of my filter sock. I switch out the socks every couple days, or when I am gone I replace right before I leave for the week and first thing when I return on Friday. Nitrates have been ~ 5ppm.

Most of the SPS in my tank are frags right now. I'll post some pictures soon..

Thanks. No I found the sump at an LFS and it was too tall to fit under my stand so I took a reciprocating saw to it. It looks pretty rough actualy. i'd say holds about 20-25 gallons of water. One thing I learned is to not skimp on the plumbing. If you ever need to take your sump off line or have a problem with your return pump and have to take it out, your going to have a mess on your hands if you dont have the ball valves. Of course I learned the hard way!!

I actually have a small leak from my overflow but I havent gotten around to fixing it yet. Its not that bad.. Just a little drop here and there. LOL

I think I paid 70 bux for that frag!!! OUch. Its pretty small but I can tell its starting to encrust a little more and the branches are growing a little too. Its a little more blue in person. Looks more Purple there.

Beautiful setup, tank itself, and livestock inside :)

Really nice setup, should be fun to watch it grow out.

No idea on ID's, but do you have any pics of the purple coral in the upper right, `center shot'?

Hey Mark. Thanks for the feedback! :) That is a Stylophora which is VERY fuzzy most of the time. Its been doing pretty well. I will get some more shots of it tonight when i'm home.

s10willy - As far as epoxy I have used two different types. Most of it is from Premium Aquatics and the other is more "creamy" in consistancy that I got from Fish and Other Ichthy Things (nice LFS here in Tampa) I actually like Premium's epoxy better because it takes the other stuff longer to solidify IME.

So far I am really pleased with how everything is turning out. I just gotta get this reactor dialed in once and for all. I'll post some more pics tonight.

Thanks,
Chris

Any more guesses on my unknown SPS?? I know its difficult to tell from a frag. I can't wait till it grows out a bit. So far it looks like its going to be really nice.

Thanks again,
Chris
