My Black Ocellaris pair are spawning!!!

Quick question for those of you that use Reed's Rotifer Diet product to feed your Rots. Do you dilute that solution, I read a couple of other threads that refer to diluting that product. Wondered if anyone else here does that, and if so what is the recommendation for diluting it?

Thanks !!

I dilute mine in water. I use an old Gatorade bottle. I put about maybe 2 tablespoons in. I don't think you need to dilute it I just prefer to.

What is behind this?

Is it to make it easier to pour?
The bottle it comes in is not user friendly.

Just curious?

I just had my rot culture die, any ideas of why yours did?
Did you have it happen again?

It comes in a bag so no its not real user friendly. Its frozen...

My rots crash all the time. I think I overfeed....

The other forums I read about this stated it was due to it being highly concentrated, so I am assuming it was to get more bang for your $$.

Rob,

How can you tell if your female true perc is close to laying eggs?

I have been watching my female SA Onyx off and on with my picasso over the last couple of months, and I have noticed that during the middle of the month she is more aggressive towards the two other juvis in the tank than any other time.

I noticed today that she seems to be eating a lot more and is always looking for food and when I was pellet feeding my elegance and duncans, she will stealing food from them. She normally won't touch pellets.

I had also noticed that her belly was a bit more rounded and her anal opening appeared larger, if that makes sense.
The male has not been cleaning that I am aware of.

Any ideas?

I don't think you get any more out of it. I just was used to dosing phyto that I cultured and watering this down makes it more like that... I've never tried it full strength. Its very highly concentrated.

Doesn't the instructions for the rotifer diet state to use like 2-3mls per day to a 5 gallon batch? I dont have the instructions in front of me but for some reason I remember that.

Can you tell me where you got the tile that you are using for your Black Ocellaris?

I got it at Home Depot. It looks great around my fireplace too! :)

There is instructions? I've never gotten any...

On the regular 6 ounce bottle of rotifer diet, it does say to use 2-3 mls a day.

But, I think Rob, you are using the HD or Nanno bagged 1 liter.
I have never got this, so it may not have these instructions.

Rotifer Diet (R) is a super concentrated microalgae formulated for feeding cultures of zooplankton(rotifers, copepods, daphnia, artemia), filer feeders(shellfish, corals), and other micro feeders.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Contains: Nannochlopsis (1-2 microns in size)
cell count: ~18 billion cells per ML

Directions:

Add enough Rotifer Diet to maintain a light green color (light lime green) between feedings. Typically this will be 2 - 3 ml's of Rotifer Diet daily per million rotifers.

Keep refrigerated at all times.
Do not blend.

Sorry Nebthet I missed your post. I'd say that's just her growing up. You'll know when its coming they will both be cleaning.

That is alright Rob, it happens, when you look at computer screens for any long period of time it is easy to miss things. LOL. I am just glad to hear she is on track. I would say she is a good two to three years old herself, the picasso about 1.5years and my baby Onyx both turned 1yr at the beginning of this month.

It just makes me wonder, with summer coming up and the inevitable change in temperature inside the apt here, the tank usually gets up to 84 daytime high and 78 night time low during the hottest part of the summer, if she may be preparing herself for breeding.

Then again, they might never try. If they do though, since you live right around the corner from me, if you want to raise the fry until I can get some thing set up to try myself you are more than welcome to it.

Thanks for answering my question.

How is the rest of your tank doing? I haven't seen too many pictures of it lately. I am a bit of a pic whore LOL..

She may very well be ready but has no mate at this point. They may be playing catch up.

You could be right. She may be getting ready.

If you get eggs I'll definitely be coming over :)

You mean my big tank or my breeding stuff? I'll have to get the camera out. I've been so busy lately I haven't had much time for pictures.

Hey Rob. How do you feed the rotis? Do you just scoop up some water from the roti bucket, or do you use a sieve?

Well I think her and the picasso are mated.. they sleep in the same spot at night and swim together in the tank but she also doess her own thing from time to time. I think it is because their algae patch sleeping spot right now s slowly reducing so she is looking for another area for them to be able roost at ight. She is back to playing in the elegance again and he has been in there from time to time.

I will definately keep you updated on the progress then.

I actually meant both of your tanks.. I saw the recent pics of some of the true perc and b&ws and they are cool.

I use a sieve. Then rinse the rots with fresh water through the sieve before feeding.

Cool. You have a BTA don't you? Do they go to it?

Please yes keep me updated.

I'll get some pics going soon :)

I used to have a BTA, but my stupid cleaner shrimp I had kept stealing food right out of it's mouth all the time and picking at it and so it deteriorated. I have a good sized Elegance in my tank now though and they took to that much better than the BTA. I want to get a couple more of them. :)
They both go into the Elegance from time to time. Big Momma more so than the picasso right now, so they are going back and forth between the algae on the wall and the elegance.

Sweet.. I love pics.
