My Cadlights 50 Cube Build Thread

I guess I should post this here since it's not quite a nano and it's not a large tank.I just opened the box to make sure its in one piece.Luck would have it and it is.I'm going to try and post a few close -up pics of the tank construction.I was worried about getting this tank without seeing good pics of one first.A thread was started on NR with a few pics of the tank, but no close-ups.These pics should help someone decide whether or not to purchase.IMO you won't find a better tank for the price.I really wanted a 60 cube. The quotes I got started around $700 and went to $1300.I couldn't see spending that much more to get another 4" in height.I looked at special ordering a Marineland starphire cube, but I hate their overflow design. And their silicone work looks like s--t.Most places had a slow turn around time also.I got this tank in 6 days.It came from Canada.(I live in FL)Enough BS ing. Here are the pics,I hope.101_2437.jpg101_2438.jpg101_2439.jpg101_2443.jpg101_2445.jpg101_2435-1.jpg

Let me try this again.

Yeah. The dimensions are 24x24x20.the 3 panels are starphire as well.I thought the glass would be thicker, but I'm very pleased with it anyway. My Oceanic Tech 45 had a lot thicker glass.I want to get started on my stand.I plan on building the carcass with maple ply and solid maple.I will buy the wood in rough form then mill it down to the thickness I need. The doors will have a bead board center with an applied molding.I'm going with an espresso stain and laquer finish.IMG]http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/xx285/fishunt-72/101_2448.jpg[/IMG]

Very nice. I can't wait to see it up and running. I'm considering buying this tank myself. What will you be using for lights, skimmer, and flow?

Im surprised that its thinner than the Oceanic 45...and for rimless you would expect it to be thicker.

Otherwise, big thumbs up, very nice.

I have an Outer Orbit HQI 150 w/ 4 T-5's.That I will use to get this up and running.I plan on upgrading to a 250 eventually. The fixture came with a Tech 45 I bought from Craig's List.I never set that tank up though. As for the skimmer,I have 3 in mind.Bubble Magnus NAC-6,Euro Reef RS 80,or a Reef octopus. For the flow it will be a Vortech, but I don't know what size.I've asked around and get a different answer from everyone. It's like asking if T-5's or metal halides are better.

Did you order the whole system or just the tank and stand?

I should have my 50 gallon Cad cube plumbed and filled with water this weekend and I have a Vortech MP10 I'm going to try in it. My plan is to try one, and go to two if I need to - one on either side of the overflow. I only have LPS corals, so I may need a lot less flow than you want. But I'll let you know what I think.

These CAD cubes seem very reasonable, I've been considering a 24x24x24 rimless but these seem like a great value. Are there any examples of these tanks up and running on the forums here? I look forward to seeing your progress fishhunt and others!

I think this is the only one on RC.Here is the only other one I know of.http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218935

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong when I post pictures. They're a PITA to look at this way.I post them the same way on NR and they come up where you only have to scroll down, not go left to right to see them.Thanks.

The pictures seem to work fine for me unless i reduce the size of my window smaller than the pictures then I have to scroll. Maybe the other forum resizes them? not sure.
