My Carpet Anemone from Petco

I like to use my fingernail to slowly tickle and lift an edge of the foot. I use the top side of the fingernail though. There is to much risk of tearing the foot if I hook the foot with the underside of the nail.then once I have a portion lifted I slowly push with light pressure but I don't use steady pressure I just work the edges. Go slow. It should take 5-10 minutes. I use this same technique when I collect nems on the Oregon coast. If you don't have nails use a flexible card. I like my library card for it:)

Nice find! Petco has very good pricing, however, I bought 2 fishes from them and 1 has itch. It was a very bad experience. nonetheless, I would have spotted that prior making the purchase if I wasn't getting too distracted because of the pricing.

Aren't they really poisonous ?

They have nematocysts in their tentacles, just like corals; so, yes, they are 'poisonous' if that is what you meant. Also, should an anemone get pureed by a power-head, most of the fish in a tank will die. Haddoni, in particular, are known fish eaters, so there's that to worry about also,

Furthermore, when they die they can sometimes broadcast spread their nematocysts -- if they fall on coral the tissue literally melts. What's interesting is that it affects all corals differently.

I had been considering this deal as well but all the carpets at my petcos had gaping mouths so I didnt want to chance it. They did just get in a very large neon green one that looks in great health but it was also 65 instead of 22 like the others.

I was also looking at an orchid dottyback there since they are $20 instead of 50-60 at other places but the one they have always looks to be in poor health, this last one had half his fins chewed off, really wish they would separate them when they see that kind of stuff.

Their online selection is quite impressive actually and not bad pricing even considering I believe it is all drop shipped when ordered.

I will try again tonight to get it off the QT tank glass. I did not want to stress it out to much yesterday. I will post pics of it in the DT.... hopefully in makes it in there tonight.

Thanks for all the great help and comments!

Well it took me 40 minutes to get the foot off the glass. I used a silicone spatula and an old debit card. Here are pics of the Haddoni's new home in my display tank.

(note: there is extra live rock in my tank that will get removed)

Tank is gorgeous bud! Well done. That Haddoni has lots of room to grow :)

Thanks. The haddoni is about half it's size right now. I will post pics later after it stretches out when the water is clearer (I stirred up some sand to make a hole for it's home).

Also I scooped out a hole about 3/4" to 1" deep and placed the Haddoni in it and lightly backfilled around it with sand. As you can see the foot has now expanded and pushed out on the sand. Was I correct in what I did or should I put right on top of sand bed? Does the foot have enough room?

It should be fine, you just helped it get started. The marks on the sand indicate that it's getting comfortable. Lookin' good!

Thank you or you help. I was afraid it was constricted as I have never seen the foot that large of a diameter. In the quarantine tank the foot would cover the entire bottom of the coffee mug.

Is my carpet dying it keeps hiding

My carpet anemone is hiding upside down and it's mouth is open I brought it yesterday how many days will it take to get use to my tank

Here's an update:

I did not get a picture with the haddoni all spread out but it does measure about 8-9" in diameter. I have attached a photo that I marked up. The Haddoni spread out further and covered 1/3 of rock #1 and covered rock #2 completely.

But then I noticed it started to move it's foot under rock #1. It has lifted rock #1 up off the sand bed and is half way under it and has lifted rock #2 also. I will post a pic when I get home but is this normal? Should I move it out from under these rocks? Only about half of the haddoni is exposed as the other half in under rocks.... lol

Ok here is the pic of my haddoni working its way under the rock. If you look at the rock you can see the haddoni has lifted it up 1" by the clean rock surface now exposed.
