My clowns never try to bite me but my blue damsel does every chance he can get.
My clown bites me !!

Out of all the clowns I've had over about 25 years of keeping them, my present pair of picasso's are the ONLY pair I've had that don't bite me...yet!LOL
It's weird for me, I can even pick up their rock they lay eggs on after they have spawned.
Every time I do I think, "ok, this is where she bites me", and she never does.
However my anthias have been bothering them trying to get to those eggs, so I wonder if that will make them become aggressive over time.

Not too long ago I had a maroon that did actually jump out of the tank and hit the floor as my hand just started to hover over the surface, she was by far the meanest I've ever had.
I'm thinking mine will eventually get to that point, it seems to be getting braver and braver

I might actually flick her cuz she is really mean even when she sees my hand on top of the water she tries to bite me.

Thinking logically like a person doesn't fit well on this one, so punishment of any kind will not make sense to that clown.
You are the invader in that clowns eyes, and if you flick it, war is on!
It will see you as an enemy every time you go near it, and it will just be quicker and sneakier in it's attacks.

+1 try to ignore it. when your hand goes in the tank keep a tight fist and only open when you need to grab something or whatever.

Healthy clownfish are supposed to bite you. They are very territorial. If you dive and stick your hand near one they will also bite you, and they get pretty large.
This 16 year old fireclown bites me but not as bad as an 8 year old. They are spawning and that makes it worse. All healthy damsels will bite you.

whats funny is my wife thought i was full of it and a wimp. so one day her and i were putting new coral in the tanks. i asked her to place a coral in a certain spot, and she got nailed. water slung all over the living room. you would of thought jaws was in the tank by how fast she pulled out and the look on her face.
i wish i had video of it.
my neighbor who lives across the street has 180g filled with sps and lots of fish. he watches my tank when i go on vacation. so one time i got a call, he wanted to know if i would like him to sell my coral frags at the reef club meeting; i said sure. i get back from vacation and look in the tank and the frags are still there. so i thought maybe nobody wanted to buy em.
nope, my 6'2" 230lb neighbor/friend/fellow hobbyist got put on notice who that tank really belongs too.
i wish i had video of it.

The bigger the clown, the harder they bite. Large clowns CAN draw blood (though not a lot). They can leave little bite marks. They DO have teeth (just small ones).
For what it's worth, they can be aggressive in the wild, too. Most of the time if you are a diver they will try to hide from you. But if you are just swimming by, they will wait until your head and body are past and will nip out and bite your legs. I had one bite me on the inner thigh a little too close for comfort, if you know what I mean. I was only wearing loose board shorts
