My experience with advice from other hobbyists.

Wow, OP was completely destroyed in this thread. OP is obviously very new to this, and like anyone new, made some poor choices and no doubt overconfident about his ability to "beat the odds". To an experienced person, the mistakes appear so obvious, but again, this is a new person to the hobby. The reason I rarely post to these forums is it is like almost any other internet board - destroy the n00b rather than try to teach and move the hobby forward.

Probably not a popular sentiment, so flame away. My two cents.

I think most people here are trying to help and educate the OP. The problem is, right from the start, the OP tried to exert that their limited experience is solid evidence of success despite already being told otherwise.

They were given advice otherwise, then commmented back again stating that according to their experience, we are incorrect.

Then more evidence was given and the OP doesn't even comment back. To me that says that they only made this thread to state what they wanted as fact and only converse if it was agreed with. It is terrible that those critters will be the ones to suffer in the end.

I hope that the OP eventually realizes (as it should be obvious) that their 2 weeks, a solid 14 days of experience is absolutely no match for some of these reefers here who have 20 and even 30 years of reefkeeping experience. C'mon, let's not be silly now :debi:

swee' pea. when she was 6 months old, her previous owners threw her out in the yard because she was no longer a cute puppy. they fed and watered her but gave her very little human contact. i got her a little over 5 years ago when she was 2.5 years old. after spending 2 years with very little attention, she was terrified of everything, including her shadow. she literally isolated herself in a back room. took her several weeks to warm up to me but once she did, i had her wrapped around my little finger. she now has me wrapped around her paw.

go ahead, make fun of me. i'm used to it. LOL

Slief, we had a black great Dane he ended up living for 11 years. Unfortunately we had a put River down 6 years ago. His nickname was big dummy, cause no matter who was on the couch he was going to come sit or lay on ya. (best dog I ever had). To the OP I think you should add some more fish to the tank since new systems Love to get overcrowded fast. I have a dragon moray eel I can sell you, he's a model citizen you can trust me. LOL

I also do not listen to anyone on this forum. Look how nice my Shark aquarium is. Look how happy they all are. Specially the damsels. No one can hurt them with big sharks watching out for them :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g-CB0dOPgw

/sarcasm

That is sad.. Notice how the sharks all swim with their tails down below the level of their head.. Not a good sign. I had years worth of experience in keeping and distributing black tips, white tips, lemons among other sharks and what I see there is a tell tail sign of unhappy and unhealthy sharks. They may be well fed but they aren't doing well in those conditions and their body language tells it all. Sad sad situation for those poor fish.

11 years is a good long life for a dane! They are oversized lap dogs. They have no idea how big they are. On a serious note, is your dragon a Hawaiian one? The Hawaiian dragons are my favorite eels!

Thanks. I've always had a soft spot for unual pets whether it was snakes, tortoises, eels, sharks, ferrets etc but I love our dane the most. She is such a sweetheart. You have quite a zoo yourself! Beautiful danes too! Your pot belly's are little porkers aren't they? We were considering a pygmy one but like with most pot belly's, you just never know how large they will end up unless you pay a premium for them.

My cousin in Florida just recently acquired a little pot belly. He loves the thing. I just wish their hair wasn't so stiff. One of these days we might add one to our menagerie.

Beautiful!! I assume it's not kept in your reef? I had a gorgeous hawaiian dragon back in the early to mid 90's. Always loved that eel but gave it up along with my 5' moray as well as sharks when I went to reef. I've considered adding one to one of my systems but the fish are much easier and finding a nice dragon is really tough these days.

I commend everyone who has posted in this forum and bracing themselves without giving this guy the full grunt of their emotions.

:bows:

what my brain hears when i read his post lol

"hey guys, my fish is still alive after a week, I think I figured out this whole reef keeping thing already, those other people are just internet noobs" - OP

This thread is going nowhere fast... LOL
Our dane is a big baby. We have a free roaming house trained 4' iguana who lives in the family room on the couch. The iguana has made our dane his biatch. Our dane is more or less terrified of the iguana and almost every day the iguana will come into the den where the dane usually stays and follows her around and or corrals her into a corner or onto the couch. You know how danes sit on the couch..

A couple weeks ago, the iguana corralled our dane into the laundry room. The dane was cornered and wouldn't move until we picked up the iguana.

We have quite a zoo at our house.. This is some of our clan. Not shown are our two tortoises, one of which is over 80 pounds and our sons chameleon. the only thing we are missing is a bacon seed.

He's has his own aquarium separate from my reef tank. I've had reef tanks for 20 years and never set up a predator tank but always wanted one. So finally last year my wife and I decided to go for it. The only thing that made me nervous at first was we have two children and I wanted to make sure they can't get anywhere near the aquarium so I actually installed locks on the canopy for piece of mind.

I've been spotted on that show more than once...

Awesome! Nice to see you round these parts!

I appreciate all your great info on the videos I see you on and I want to thank you!

=)

Also I Hope Jim is doing well and his tank hasnt had ICH rear its ugly head again lol

I love eels. Back in the early 90's, I had a 5' green moray that loved to be handled. He loved having his chin rubbed and sides scratched. He was like a big slimy puppy dog. I got rid of him when I switched over to reef and have missed him ever since. Last week I set out on a mission to track what happened to him and after some research, I found the owner who acquired him after me. It's been 20 years now and I'm sure he has long since passed away but if I came across him again, I'd setup a tank just for him. He was by far the coolest fish I've ever owned. I even swam in the tank with him.

I will be seeing Jim later today. I'm meeting him at one of his customers to trouble shoot an RKE issue that seems to have caused a heater to stick on on a customer tank. I think those ich issues are behind him unless this tank in question breaks out in it from the 88* temp spike.

Slief, I don't mind telling you that iguana freaks me out :lmao:

This iguana follows me around and will jump right into my lap. I don't think it realizes it's an iguana and instead thinks it's one of us or the dogs.

Don't worry OP. Everyone told me 12 years ago that I shouldn't put a pac blue tang in my 55 gallon tank, and I certainly shouldn't have tried to cure it's lateral line disease (got the fish for like $10 because of it) as a novice. And look, everything was going swimmingly, until I somehow poisoned the tank and most of my fish died. I still never figured out what happened, just saw the water was all cloudy... I was living with others at the time so maybe one of them did it. I was planning on selling the pac blue for a profit after I cured it, or getting a larger tank.

Anyway.. point is.. I'm sure I could have told them all I told you so if something else hadn't killed it first :D Small tangs in small tanks will work as long as you have plan for their future as you do. But like they said, you'll see that aggression soon enough and you'll need to yank them as soon as you see it. You can get plenty of enjoyment for a time. You aren't at the "I told you so" stage yet though.

@slief looks like good speakers.. I'm a bit of a home theater junkie... running definitive technology 8080-ST 5.1 with samsung 7 series 240hz led 55" 3dtv... considering an upgrade on the speakers, sounds great, but now I want more :) Since I'm getting back into reefs again(bought 2 new tanks, been running my 24g for 2 years now) I probably wont have money for anything more than going up to 7.1 with the current setup.

I had a friend that had one about that size. Every morning, he would put the iguana in the tub with like an inch of warm water. It made the iguana almost immediately relieve itself. And then it was ready to rock and roll around the house for the day.

Slief: Nice pants, bruh.
