My first Azoox! Fathead Dendro

My first Azoox coral arrived today. He was already partially open in the bag and seems to be acclimating extremely well to the tank. He was 1/2 open in about 15 minutes and I fed him a small piece of shrimp from Rods food I was feeding the whole tank. He grabbed on to it and gobbled it up without a problem.

He now appears to be almost completely open, shrimp gone.

Anything special I need to know about these? Here's the pic from the website, I don't have a camera to take a pic in my tank though, :(.

Nice Dendro!

My biggest recommendation is to put it somewhere you can feed it readily. You'll want to feed it as often as possible, but in small quantities. I made my own brew of food using shrimp, krill, some leftover seafood medley, and some agar chopped in a blender to a paste and left in the freezer. I roll it into tubes the thickness of a pen and snap off little pieces to feed. I usually throw in a bit whenever I can coincide a trip to the fridge with a walk by the tank.

Also, also make sure you feed each polyp as they begin springing from the side of the main polyp. They are not interconnected and do not share nutrition amongst polyps. Eventually, you'll hit a critical mass of polyps and the thing will take off.

My current colony is about 15 heads, all from a single polyp. I had an older colony that was well over 150 polyps that I fed by removing it to a separate container and flooding it with mysis.

thanks for the advice! I'm planning on target feeding every other day or so. This guy appears to stay open 24/7, and catches small stuff during my regular feedings.

I was a bit worried he would be like the sun corals and only open at night, but so far that hasn't been the case at all. Fully open polyp extension day and night.

Yup, they're really easy to feed! Just make sure you don't miss too many feedings; their tentacles will weaken and wont be able to capture food as easily.
