I got my Prodibio in the mail today, but will not start dosing until Thursday after I get my second baseline water sample.

Todays the big day then:) - Good PO4 result?

Cheers

Simon

I have been using prodibio products for about 12 months.
However it has also been used with rowaphos and a few other products so i cant confirm how effective it is in reducing nitrates and po4.
What i can say is that i have noticed some changes like the water going crystal clean the next day after dosing some of the biodigest. and biotpim.

I have today stopped dosing all other supplements and turned off my rowa reactor to see what the effects are after 1 month,
I will be dosing the product weekly and testing my water to what effects it make sto water quality.

Here are some pics.

I just took my second baseline sample and will deliver it to my friend for testing. He will test both of my samples sometime in the next week when he runs the phospherous testing autoanalyzer. I will not get the results of my phosphate baseline until then.

I also just now dosed the Biodigest and Bioptim in my aquarium. I'm undecided as to when I should start dosing the ReefBooster. Since these products are meant to work in tandem, I will probably start dosing it next week. I just don't want to shock the system.

Tangblack, Very impressive corals! Can you please give more details of your system? Do you also dose any Zeo products? DSB? Lighting? Water movement? Etc...

Aquarium Profile: Main Tank: 2.4 x .850 x 720 approximately 1500 Litres Sump Tanks: Two 1.20 x .50 x .400 approximately 500 L
Filtration: Protein skimmer.. Deltec AP1004
Calcium Reactor.. aquacare Computer system.. IKS Main Pump .. Deltec 5250, 6000L Top up.. Tunze Osmolator, IKS dosing pump Water Flow .. Tunze Streams, 4 x 6100(12000L) 1 x 6200 (20000L)
Canister filter with Tunze zeolite/carbon.

Lighting 4x400w plus 8x 54w t5

Zeo free tank.

In terms of using prodibio in reef tank i dose every week, biodigest, bioptim, bio trace, strontium, reef booster twice a week, but only half dose as i found using too much i get algae. so take it easy on the booster.

Wow - superb colors :D - another great Prodibio tank - gives me even more encouragement. :bounce2:

Have you ever used any of the Zeo additives such as CV AAHC etc?

Interesting that you are going to turn off the Rowaphos - I'm going to do that too this weekend just before the next Digest addition and see what happens to PO4. Will be interesting to compare notes on the PO4 results. Iwan has taken out his rowa too.

With strontium additions do you use the Prodi amplues for this and do you test for it? I figured that the ARM media in my CA reactor would cover Str - what media do you use in yours?

Interesting also that you use the Tunze zeoliths - very reputable company - clearly these work as well as the Zeovit version - do you know how the prices compare? Are you going to keep these running for the next month?

I dose digest and trace every 2 weeks but have noticed that after 10 days or so the water looses a little of its translucent effect that occures after prodi dosage. I guess with a 2000 ltr system - one a week dosage makes sense.

Any more tank pics pls?

thanks for sharing

You should turn off the skimmer for 15 minutes when you dose Reefbooster. I do the other products separated into some aquarium water.
It isn't necessary to turn the skimmer off.
I am sure that you will be enthusiastic about the products.

Hi Iwan

I notice that my skimmer bubbles drops down after dosing booster - I guess because of the fat content and returns to normal by the next morning - do you get this effect?

Hi Travis - how is the Zeo B4 start up going?

From what I'v picked up re the functioning of zeolites in the the zeo system they take out NH3 before it can be decomposed by bacteria, and the daily pumping of the reactor serves to allow the zeolite structure to be clear of bacteria so it can continue to adsorb. The resulting released mulm also has a coral feeding function I understand.

The size of the bac population will be govered by what it has to feed off - which with zeo is much less than prodi bacause of the above, and whaterver fish feeding inputs go in the tank.

Cheers

Simon

I am still waiting on my ZEO reactor to be made. After it is made, it will be shipped to me with the basic 4 along with CV and AAHC, which I will start dosing immediately with the basic 4. I will update my thread over on the other board with progress.

Nobody knows what exactly the zeolites are for. I don't think they remove ALL NH3 because there is very slow flow through the reactor, so some of the NH3 is being synthesized in the water column and on the other surfaces where bacteria is present. In fact, the reduction of nutrients becomes even more efficient when the reactor is on an on/off cycle every 3 hours. My "guess" is that the zeolites help attract NH3 to the bacteria that is on the stones, which helps draw more NH3 to them to feed on. I agree that the release of the mulm has a 2-fold effect where it puts more bacteria in the water column to work. This bacteria will also attach to other parts of the tank. What doesn't attach will be skimmed out, which will directly export what that bacteria has fed on. The mulm also acts as a highly nutritious food source for the corals.

tangblack, thanks for chiming in here. It is good to see another successful long-term Prodibio user out there. I would love to hear more about the effects you have seen from Prodibio and your dosing schedule.

Salve Simon

I also know this effect.
I turn my skimmer off after the bonus for 15 minutes and reduce the performance after that for some hours.
With this method the amino acids can develop their effect and aren't removed immediately by the skimmer.

Iwan, You have a trully amazing display! Definitley TOTM material. And mostly captive raised. Good for you!

There is a bacteria product from Canada called reefresh. it's available at polyplab.com

smallset3ug.png

i've used their reef-roids product for a couple months with wicked results but i've only just started using their bacterial product. the few people i've talked to who tested out the product say it's phenomenal.

Water has DEFINITELY cleared up. i don't have a phosphate test kit that will test low enough to see what my exact phosphate is but I'm hoping it will colour up my SPS

ReefCentral is against any vendor or employee hiding their identity to promote their products on our, or any other bulletin board. This is unethical behavior.

I'm sure I missed it, but is there a link to where we can get these or similar t-5 lights that iwan uses.
Or can some one help me come up with something similar for my 125 I'm planning?

I might have missed this, but what is the length of the 80 watt T5s

A 80w T5 bulb is 140cm or 57 inches long.

Unfortunately, I know the online store's badly in the USA.
But you need 2 80 watts of lightings to cover the length of 125 inches.
The number bulbs orientates itself after the width. I recommend planning a bulb per 2.5 inches.

I was on RC last night. And came across a thread about URI bulbs. They are coming out in about 2 months. With their version of the T/5 bulbs.Especially for the ones looking for length. Not sure what their length will be?But you might take a look and see, what's coming on the scene in the next few months.Just wanted to pass this on here.I'm sure and email to them, could answer your question for you and others here.
