my house reef (211 g.)

hey tang my nitrates are undetectable and phosphates with colorimeter are .02. I still have algea on my rocks I am guessing it is bound up in the rocks and until it is all unbound or covered over by coralline it will be useable by algea to grow even though it isn't available in the water column. I have been using prodibio around 2 months now and still have algea. it may just depend on how far off your tank was when you started. of course if his bulbs are shifting we could throw that all out the window.

tangblack, I have yet to SEE any proof that would convince me....

here are two pics from my own system in which the coral lightened up. I do not use any additive system other than kalk, Mg, Ca+, Sr. The pics do not show the true blue of the coral, but seems to be the same effect of products endorsed on this thread...

To each his own. I just say if you think it works, let's see some pics!

Indeed ... to each his own .... this thread has been very inspirational ....

I do not use the Zeovit or the Prodibio stuff ... however, out of curiosity I started dosing with the Reef-resh from polyplab the last month ....

Though I do not have a close-up pictures of before and after, what I did observe was that some of my sps that colored up the last 3 mths had more vibrant colors (30% of the sps that I have remain generally brown) the pocis respond esp well to the daily bacteria dosing.

I use tap water for water change, around 5% of my water volume weekly and also prefer sticking to my MH.

(pardon the poor photography it is only a phone camera) :)

Just for comparison ... the staghorn above is in the centre of this pic ...(to its left is a yellow branch porites and to its rt is a red milli) ... this was in Dec when I 1st bought the staghorn ... it did not have any traces of blue ...

And the same section of the tank today ... with some revamp (blue staghorn somewhat in the same position) ...

I just wanted to congratulate iwan on an amazing tank. I am constructing an sps dominated tank almost the same size as yours (210 gallons) So you are now my idol:D I have been following this thread for a long time and I have really learned a great deal from it. I was wondering how the extra lights are working out now that youve had them for a while. How about the updated chemical regimen, i know you have been trying out different dosages and was just wondering if you had settled on anything? One last question, How come you dont run the actinic tubes over your tank(420nm)? Do you think it would have any effect on your coloration?
I would also like to thank simon(trythechi) for your great posts on this thread, Iwan meathod I think that this thread has helped me out a great deal in better understanding the principals behind iwans tequeniques . Thanks for helping us better understand all this. Btw, I will be keeping an eye on your tanks progress, I cant wait to see what is in store for it:D

And thanks again iwan, for sharing your beautiful tank with us and taking the time to answer all our questions. You are an inspiration to us all.

btw, Next time I am in europe I will deffinetly be stopping by to drool over your tank:D

My results with the Iwan method

Further to the request for picture results for 'evidence' or otherwise of the Iwan method - here are some recent shots for comment - what do you think? Before shots earlier in the thread...

I'm still learning........

Iwan, when you get back or if you're still around, a question on lighting. I know you advocate T5 but I was wondering if you think that a higher kelvin MH bulb would bring out better colours. I'm thinking of switching to 20k from my current 14k bulbs. Only thing holding me back is that I hear the 20k bulbs have less PAR than the 14k.....

Have a great time in Egypt!

nice tank SIMON.I hope we can find some nicer pieces(like IWANS)for a new additions.

Thanks for the comment about the tank Carib. It would be great to have nicer peices like Iwans - however I'v been buying some not so colorful peices to see if they color up - so far I'm not hugely impressed with the results for some of the sps its the blues and purples that are week - still - its early days and I'm still learning how to use the zeo elements.

Iwan, have a great holiday:) and when you get back - do you have any suggestions on how coloration can be improved please?

Mikeatjac - zeo dont disclose content of thier products:(

Cheers

Simon

chi and nex I think time is a major factor. some corals like efflo and soli's seem to always color change in a few weeks I don't know why but I have seen it many times in different systems. other acro's and pora's seem to take forever. years even. sad but appears true. I have seen corals that won't look bad no matter what tank they are in. hope and patience is what I am living by.
mike not sure if you are inerested but oceanenvironments here in florida is stocking polyplab products for faster shipping in the state. just incase you were thinking about it.

Simon, your tank looks great. Time for me to refocus on my tank again, and dose more Prodibio. I need to find a message I got from Rob earlier, to avoid overdosing like I think I did last time.

I'll test the water tonight to see what numbers I'm dealing with.
