My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me at what stage of the ich cycle does CP kill the ich. I'm using it in a QT 800mg in 20 gallons. Just curious.

So far I have used it a few times and it's seems to be a very simple effective way to go. I just bought a regal tang that came with ich and within 48 hrs not a visible indication of ich to be found.

thanks

There are treatments for Ich that use a food as the carrier and they contain CP.
Therefore, It would suggest that CP is effective against Ich while attached to the fish.

Quinine Sulfate is effective in all stages of Ich:

The best treatment we offer for this parasite is Quinine Sulfate. It will kill the ich at any stage of it's cycle. It works better than Chloroquine phosphate that you will see many chat room members recommend to you.

QS is no longer available from Nationalfishpharm.com only CP.

Anyone ever have an issue treating a hippo/regal tang with CP?

I bought a hippo that I saw eat at a LFS and put it in a QT dosed @ 40mg/gal. He hid from Day 1 and never came out to eat. Died 5 days into QT. This is pretty much the same MO as every sixline wrasse I've tried with CP.

I have a Yellow Belly Hippo Tang, Longhorn Cowfish, Fathead Anthias, Percula Clownfish, Yellow Stripe Maroon Clown, Mandarin Dragonet, Horned Blenny, and a Fusilier Damsel that are undergoing treatment in my live rock free display (only black volcanic sand). They have been with "Ick Shield" powder for 2 weeks now, all signs of crypto are gone and they all eat fine. No issues whatsoever. Slight ammonia spike at day 9 but was handled with Prime and I dose prime daily now not a single amount of ammonia yet.

pdiehm,

How did it go with the Brook? I recently tried it and had no success. This first time I was able to find classic, early infected fish in years and bought 4 clowns that all died. The CP did not seem to slow down the natural course of the Brook. Wondering if you had better luck.

BTW - if you need CP in the future, send me a PM. I am in DE too and could assure that you get a quality supply. The Ebay sellers are very suspect.

I have been using CP on my DT tank (130 G) for the past 9 days as it had Ich in it. It’s a FOWLR tank and dosed it as all my fish showed infection. My blue hippo tang has completely stopped eating. He used to go crazy for Nori and is now not interested in eating anything. He goes and hind behind the rock, I am worried that he will starve to death if I continue.

Oh on the effectiveness of CP, I believe it is working...I used 10g/L and all ICH look cleared none of my fish show ICH on them (actually for Day 3)...I am planning turn on the UV for a day…and then do a 20% water change and check if my hippo tang starts to eat…I will try to dose less…may be 5g/L and see if that helps. Not sure if this will help.

Hippo tang not eating still..its been more than a week..I have done a 25% water change...and kept the carbon and UV running for past 3 days...let me now if you have any suggestions.

I've lost two Hippos so far while treating with CP. Neither ate, even though I saw the first one eat at the LFS before I bought him. Both just wasted away - like sixlines do every time I've tried to QT one using CP.

I lost my hippo tang today 😔.Rest are doing good, hopefully they will come out alive.I believe caution should be used with tangs as well..may be a dose of 6-8 mg/L should be used.

I've had zero problem treating other tangs with CP. Just hippos... and also sixline wrasses. But flasher/fairy wrasses all seem to do fine in it. :strange:

I am getting a Sixline wrasses next week, should I then stay away from CP? I was planning on CP treatment when they are in QT. The problem is I will be getting a bicolor and powder blue as well but have only 1 QT it's either copper or CP.:fun5:

I've tried running 3 of them (at separate times) thru CP. Always the same. They never eat and just die about a week into treatment. Your best option under the circumstances would be copper. Just ramp it up slowly (4-5 days) because of the Bicolor.

Thank you, Copper it is. Will ramp up slowly as suggested
