My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

Are we talking about clean glass or glass with a bacteria or algae film on it?
Lab equipment is usually spotless clean and you actually have an exposed glass surface. That is hardly ever the case in a fish tank.

When I used CP it was in a glass tank that was hooked to a acrylic tank that had 250lbs of rock in the tanks. Treatment worked great that time

sorry if this was asked, but after reading Joules's comment about how long it last in a tank; how often would i have to redose? every 4 days? every days?

I wanted to share my NLS Ick Shield Powder experience.

I treated my fish in a 57g tank with pvc and nothing else. After 21 days of treatment, my remaining fish are were fine although my Pink-Streaked Wrasse decided to jump in the overflow (tank is covered... not sure how he did) and has since disappeared. During the treatment, I was fighting to keep the ammonia down with water changes and Prime, and even in a bare bones tank, the water would keep getting cloudy. I only added powder back when water changes were done and at the recommended dosage for the amount of water removed. My fish hid a lot and had little appetite during treatment.

The good news is that whatever it was my fish had (not sure if it was ICK, Velvet or Brooklynella) is gone and their appetites have returned.

I had similar experience as secretiveFish, fish appetite dwindled, I was doing regular water changes had ammonia spike, was using amquel to control ammonia, water was cloudy. My Powder Blue Tang got skinny, and on day 22 of treatment he was laying on the bottom of the tank not looking good. I was able to scoop him out without him even trying to escape the net. I transferred him to my 40 gallon tank and he has fully recovered looking really good/healthy/fattening up nice. I ended the treatment (Even though I planned on going 30 days) after day 22, turned on skimmer + lighting and the clowns are looking good again and eating voraciously. I'll need to wait for awhile to see if Ich returns or not.

The CP Primer says Some Wrasses are not safe to use with CP. If you can make a list of Wrasses you have safely treated I think it would be very helpful in the future.

I have a yellow coris that is doing just fine after I added full dosage for CP. I did not see any issues with it, eating like a pig :)

So I forgot that I posted in this thread two years ago. During that time, I gave up after I lost all my wrasses. I started my tank up again not too long ago.

Well I got lucky again and had three yellow belly regals eating, which one was 1 1/2 inch! cute bugger.

So here is the stock list:

Emperor Angel
Tomini Tang
8 Barletts
1 Disbar/dispar
3 Yellow belly regal
rabbit fish
powder blue
bariene.

I started CP (got from Fishman a few years ago, still works!)

After starting CP, my tomini stopped eating. I lost 3 barletts, the dispar/disbar and what i hate the most..I lost the 1 1/2 inch regal. The good thing is..Ick seems to have been killed.

So, I don't know but it seems random on which fish dies. Its like Russian roulette. I might not be able to go thru for a 21 day treatment as the anthias have been hiding since the treatment.

I have yet to notice any issues with rocks absorbing the medication.

Maybe try ick shield x. I've had hit and miss on cp but it might be because I am qting too many fishes at once.

what antibiotics can be used with CP without negative consequences?

I've used Furan-2 more than a few times now and noticed no ill effects. I suspect just about any antibiotic would be safe, but Furan is the only one I've actually used with CP thus far.

So what else have I missed. Use plastic bare tank without bio filters . Do TTM with tanks bleached between use and also dose the chloroquine at each transfer to avoid degradation within the 36 hours. I don't think the fallow period is foolproof. I would restart with new sand even if pain in the a55. I have removed sand and let it sit outside in large plastic container with fresh water for months and also then go thru solar drying of the sand . And yet I still don't trust it so next step is to chlorox it. Yes I am paranoid . Luckily I already do the TTM with chloroquine . But I have never bleached the tanks because I always used vinegar at 5% .

wouldn't using antibiotics destroy the biological?

Puts a dent in the nitrifying bacteria levels, but won't completely eradicate them. They bounce back quickly. I've never had any ammonia issues while using antibiotics, but I also keep my QT bio-load reasonable.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me at what stage of the ich cycle does CP kill the ich. I'm using it in a QT 800mg in 20 gallons. Just curious.

So far I have used it a few times and it's seems to be a very simple effective way to go. I just bought a regal tang that came with ich and within 48 hrs not a visible indication of ich to be found.

thanks
