My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

I've always dosed CP the same as copper, 30 days.

That was my plan but I read conflicting reports of 10 days and ich is cured. Basically it boils down to I have put all this time and effort into tearing my DT apart and setting up tanks for treatment, and I don't want to ever be back in this position again. Thanks for confirming what I already thought Humblefish

I am sure all will go well, and I agree you did all the work an only want to do it once.
Be safe and treat for 30 days.

I also have a question about using a small 5-gal nano tank as a QT for new incoming fish. I don't plan on getting any large fish at the moment so do you think it's good enough? I don't really have the ability to use anything else at the moment. I am just now putting up a new 55gal DT. It has about 90lbs of live rock in it. If I were to take a small rock out and put it in the 5gal QT would that be good enough to get it nice and seeded? I am not new to the saltwater tank scene but it has been many years since I have done it.

I have never used CP before but from what everything I have read it seems like it is some really good stuff. I have used Hypo with success. Not a fan of copper myself and the rest of the crap is nothing but a lost cause from my experience.

I found some CP on eBay and all the reviews from previous purchasers have been positive so the stuff seems legit.

I just purchased some from this person on ebay as well..will report my progress with it as well. Did you start treatment with it yet?

I bought from him also and am on day 10 of treatment for a combo of velvet and ich. So far everything is doing well with the treatment. I guess we will see in a few weeks how well it works.

What dosage did you use and how big is your QT tank? Also you are basically dosing just once for 30 days correct with no water changes?

I havent done any yet. I wont be getting any new fish for 1-2 weeks. I am setting up my QT tank now and getting it ready for the new fish. I plan to treat the fish as I get them.

I am interested on the dosage as well. From what I understand you should do anywhere from 40-80mg per gallon. I was thinking of doing the middle ground of 60mg.

Are all signs of the ich and velvet gone already?

I had about 18 fish total before the outbreak and lost half of them in about a week. By the time I started the CP treatment a few were in sorry shape with another 6 symptom free or just showing mild symptoms. Two of them that were in rough shape pulled through and the rest appear fine. Other than secondary sore that is just about healed on my tang everything looks great.

I think label on the packaging recommended a higher dosage but I followed the directions in the other thread and used 40 mg/gallon. I've also made up 70 gallons of fresh saltwater dosed with CP and am changing about 10 to 15% daily.

Well day 2 and after a lot of worm and other die off I think I'm in the clear now. I lost my smallest pyramid due to ammonia rising and being stuck to one of the wp60s. I have since added live bacteria and it has turned the issue around. The multibar is more reclusive than it was previously and my potters pair is hidden most of the day. The new queen angel juv I got on Wednesday seems to be the only fish to want to eat like normal before the start of the treatment? Not sure what that's about. I may do a water change today but I only had 50g of CP to begin with and have used almost half of it now after the coral beauty suicide and 160g of water on the floor

:furious:Haha well things keep getting worse. Multibar, both potters, tusk, and Bellus dead... Long story short DON'T underestimate the amount of bristle worms in your rock and get a ammonia badge so you can see when/if hinges start to go south. He last time I did this was on a much smaller scale and with month old rock. The 75g took the biggest hit and the only fish to survive from it are the juv queen, sargassum, and Tomini tang :headwally::headwally:

Nothing like watching 500$ disappear... I mostly mad at myself for underestimating the bristle worm population, but man this sucks. First time I haven't used a ammonia alert badge and the last. We all have days like today in this hobby eventually, it's just been 15 yrs since I have experienced this feeling...

Sorry to hear that. I was pretty surprised by the number of starfish that turned up dead in my qt after I started the t treatment.

Day 3, wake up to find no one dead and fish seem less stressed. Not finding piles of dead and dying worms so I think that's finally over with. Now to get everyone back to normal and eating like pigs again

Sorry to hear about the losses, Dmorty217. I'm always a little hesitant to recommend Prazi treatment in a DT for the exact same reason... you never know how many bristleworms a person may have in their tank. How many lbs of LR do you have in your QTs? I would be worried about CP absorption.

Well most of the rock was dry sitting next to the 625g in the other room that was added for the QT. When I tore my DT apart I put maybe 4-5 rocks from the DT to seed the QT rock which caused all my problems. So if I were to guess 120lbs or so? Basically all the rock in the QT won't go back into the DT and any that does will have been exposed to bright light and many water changes before ever attempting to add back to DT. Most won't go back into any tank. I have until thanksgiving to figure this out. I have read of people removing inverts and treating DT with CP, and not having issues. Not sure if that's accurate or not

Day 4 and everyone seems to be getting back to normal and eating more often. Juv Queen didn't make it and I haven't seen the regal so when I come home from work tonight I will go looking for the fish. There is a lot of flow in the QT so I figured if the fish die I will find them stuck to a wp60 or the mag 18. Never a good sign when you don't see the fish. Really a bad couple days with me and angels... If I lose the regal that will be 7 angels I have lost in this process
