My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

Thanks HumbleFish - I was hoping it can be lower if being used strictly to kill algae. Do you know how many days it needs to be in water before I can start seeing an effect on algae?

It will be withing 24 hrs or less, when I dosed it with a few rocks that were in my DT and moved to the QT to help seed the dry rock I saw bristle worms floating around within 12 hrs and saw piles of dead and dying worms within 24hrs. I would assume it's the same time or less for the algae

I could see my next casualty being the blue hippo, she now refuses to eat and basically just hides in one corner at the top of the tank all day. Looks very skinny.

Can you take the hippo out and get her eating well again? You would always do the TTM after she is eating well enough

Not sure what you mean by taking her out? She is already in QT so don't know where else she would go and i don't know how you can make a fish eat besides trying to give it food.

I mean out of the CP and into a 10g with a filter on it to see of that has any bearing on why the fish isn't eating. If the fish starts eating you could use 2 10g tanks for the TT or even 2 5g buckets

This is my experience on CP.
I used CP on my fishes for 3 weeks in 40mg/L with the light off. Then I did a 30% water change and found the 1 of my fish still have ich on the body. I bought the CP from ebay and I'm not sure it's the real CP or something else.
I start to doubt that the effectiveless of CP.
Anyway, I start the cupramine treatment and it looks good so far.

From other posts that I have read. If a fish shows signs of ich people have found that 60mg/gal is the way to go. CP is safe up to 80mg/gal. I would suggest you try a higher dose.

I've upped my dose a few days ago to 60mg/gal and the salifin and hippo are still scratching consistently. I am having my doubts about this CP from ebay as well. Not doubting CP itself but this source.

You wouldn't be the first. I've read of many CP failures where the source was an ebay seller. I know one of the "ebay sellers" was getting his CP from Fishman Chemical, and their medication contains fillers i.e. not 99% pure CP.

My the stuff I got from the same eBay guy seems to be working all my fish have stopped scratching long ago and my pyramids eye has cleared up. I do have some CP from the pharmacist I am going to pick up. I plan on treating with CP again but this time the vet type and record progress that route

Those of you that purchased it off of eBay, who did you get it from. I got it from guy. I'm about a little over a month into my treatment and no signs of ich/velvet reappearing.

That is from the same guy i bought it from. I don't know what to say, could i be doing something wrong? Do my 2 fish not have ick/velvet and it being something else? Other fish that i have and being treated is

Purple tang - was confirmed he had symptoms but they never bothered him and now he is totally clear of anything
foxface - Same as purple tang
Naso tang - Has never shown any symptoms whatsoever at all
picasso clown - He showed symptoms of something but not sure what but no symptoms now in QT
blue chromis (he was never in my DT tank, just my permanent QT resident)
coral beauty (added 10 days after initial treatment started and no symptoms like naso tang)
melanarus wrasse - showed symptoms of flashing and scratching while in DT, have not seen him do any of that now in QT

2 fish died during treatment:
Whitetail bristletooth tang
Moorish Idol

Fish still displaying symptoms
Salifin tang - scratching
hippo tang - scractching and now not eating

Treatment started on 8/27

I have to add in my case that during one of my water changes in the middle of treatment, the CP i used for redosing was NOT from ebay but from pharmacy.

I got mine from the same guy but I have mine at 60mg/gal. What did you use to measure your dosage? Did you actually use a scale made for small measurements? I am using a jewelry scale designed for up to 10g but measures as low as 1mg. Try upping the dose to 60mg/gal.

Also, from what you listed it seems like the fish don't show any visible signs of ich anymore. Also from my exp it can take longer before fish totally stop scratching even though they no longer have ich (this exp from using copper).

CP should clear ich completely within 10 days. I would up the dosage to 60mg for 10 days and if they show no visible signs of ich during that time I would call it good. Fish have been known to not eat during CP treatment. This isn't a big deal as fish can go quite a while without eating and they should go back to eating after being removed from the CP.

Well i got a digital gram scale but it wouldn't even register anything less than a gram when i put the CP on it. I ended up using 1/4 and 1/2 teaspoons as my measuring protocol. The CP package stated that 1/4 tsp per 10 gallons is what i can use. When i initially dosed the tank on 8/27, i was able to measure up 3 grams on the scale and used that. During my subsequent water changes, for my first water change which was 20g, i used my pharmacy CP and for that i used (4) 250mg tablets. In my next water change, i used the ebay CP again and this time dosed 1 full teaspoon. I then wanted to up my dose so I added another 1/2 teaspoon.

I didn't take into account any rock displacement when I did the figuring of gallons so I would imagine my mg per gallon is somewhere between 50-60mg/gallon
