My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

Look at it this way: if you can't find a veteran to write you a script, do you really think a company from the internet will sell your pure CP?

Define mixed results.

Well, I had either a velvet or brook breakout a month ago.. Treated them with 60mg/gal of CP in a sterile tank, and it seem to work.. spots disappeared and by the end of the 2nd week, two of the fish started scratching again but still no spots. I took them off the CP because one of them stop eating.. Then I put put them in a holding tank to see if the spots came back.. sure enough, after two more weeks the spots came back and so did the twitching and scratching.

So I thought maybe the CP was slowly degrading in the water.. I started the TTM method wih CP. Basically, every 3 days I would switch the fish into a brand newly set up tank with fresh CP... The theory is that if CP degraded overtime in the water, they would always be in a fresh dosage. It looked good and the spots were gone within 2 days. I did that 6 days ago ... But one of my fish just started scratching again yesterday. Looks like he got reinfected.

So basically, spots disappear within a day or two of starting CP but then within a couple days or weeks, they get reinfected.

By from a local drugstore. Get script from a vet.

I tried.. no one will write me a scrpt. My local vet says they only do cats and dogs.. I called a few other random places and they said they only write scripts for animals they see, and since they cant examine fish they said no go.

So whats the consensus? Is fishman chemicals CP legit 100%?

I'm using it and having mixed results.. not sure whats going on.
not recommended, fishman is china-sourced. you want a script from a vet. check out the other popular forum for help on how to source from a vet and which pharmacy has teamed up to help that forum with sourcing CP once you have the script at a great price.

Show pics of sick fish to your vet and show him this thread. A veterinarian should write you a script. Then find a mom & pop drug store and get the powder form.

Fishman CP is from India. I called 7 vets in my area including the one who I bring my 3 dogs to. All said no. What would you have done?

It's very fustrating to be told over and over again to just "call the vet" while they all turn you down, and your fish are getting sicker.

I would call that crappy veteran where I'm from. But I'm from the south. Here in Mississippi our veterans know us by name. Put your fish in a bucket take it to your silly veteran and tell him you need CP

we've had a few communications with the various retailers and wholesalers of CP in the US and in last touch with fishman they told us they use china-sourced CP so interesting that it is now, per your post or whenever you talked to them, sourced from india. nonetheless, your story is a common one which is why there is the primer thread on the other forum that provides a link to additional resources on vets in your area that can prescribe it for you. additionally, the material and conversation to have with the vet and the pharmacy they are familiar with that is already servicing members to provide them with CP. that is what I would do if I were you.

lastly, if you have an existing problem, there are always other treatment options to CP. presumably dealing with velvet if you're looking for CP, then time is of the essence like you seem to be indicating and getting another regime started immediately takes favor over trying to figure out CP. I'd still do both in tandem as CP can help on the next batch of fish, though.

I don't know what state you live in, but in Massachusetts they are very strict about prescriptions. I called all 7 vets on "the list" and none would give me a prescription without seeing the patient, especially when it is for a medication they have never heard of. They could do jail time and lose their license.

The list seems like it is not current.

FWIW, the Fishman CP is working for me. My puffer is doing well and my dwarf lion who was breathing heavy is now breathing normal. This is after 9 days.

My other fish have only been in QT for 4 days. My tusk is eating and the tangs color is coming back (not eating yet.)

When you have no other option, you do what you need to do. I also have some NLS ich shield which gets good reviews.
