Unfortunately thats what I see too often with aquarists partial to corals. The tangs are usually strikingly underfed. In the thread posted by Attomik on his 180 gallon, I personally felt his foxface was too skinny. When you can see the bones, its too skinny. The fish are underfed in an attempt to maintain water quality. I say getting a bigger skimmer, doing more water changes and feed ing your fish is a better alternative.
I dont think its a lavender tang (Acanthurus nigrofuscus). Its definately not an Acanthurus. The mouth in the picture is of a bristletooth. Be carefull of some websites, they're highly innacurate. That marinecenter website has the scientific name wrong. Ctenochaetus nigrofuscus doesnt exist. The pbase website has the name correct, Acanthurus nigrofuscus, and Goodwin9s fish is definately not an Acanthurus.

hmmmm...well it was sold to me as a "Blue Eyed Kole" and then I got an ID from a very reputable source who said it is a striped bristletooth... Doesn't really matter I guess, inthe scheme of things, but I sure wish wholesalers and retailers had their act together on proper IDs.

Cougarman, I find it amusing that you all of a sudden know my fish's health from a few pictures. For your information, I feed twice a day.. once in the morning and once at night, plus the macro algae that I harvest in the tank is eaten daily. My fish are perfectly healthy, thank you for asking.
So next time, I suggest you ask me how I take care of my tank before running off to other forums to make innaccurate assumptions. A simple conversation would have been it.

I know boys will be boys, but lets keep it professional here everyone. Debate is good. Get your point across. It is after all how we all learn. Sift through the knowledge and lets not get personal. I don't think anyone was trying to say your tank was unhealthy, only that the Foxface was a little skinny. I believe your tank looks great. Debate kids...don't get personal.

Well I guess that answers our question about whether they're still watching this thread. Thanks Dewey58, I couldn't have said it better. Sorry Atomikk I didn't realize you were so sensitive. I'm regularily insulted on AP and I dont take it to heart, its just anothers opinion. I actually enjoy stirring things up a little over there. You 3rd Reich aquarists really take things too seriously. A true man of science should be able to take some healthy criticism and then defend their point of view. If I'm not mistaken, didn't you run off to AP and start a bashing thread about Goodwin9?

That's seriously pathetic and a true judge of character. I live in the area and have seen all of these systems and although I'm sure Goodwin9 doesn't consider himself a pro by any means, he obviously seems to know a thing or two to successfully manage all of the systems he has.
Anyway, just couldn't believe how ridiculous that was, on with the good stuff now!!!

Do we really need to go back to this? Chuck admitted that he has had problems, to which he hasn't been able to correct. That isn't what I'd consider being able to "successfully manage" a system.
In his defence after all the back patting was through and we "3rd Reich aquarists" chimed in to point out the problems in hopes that they get fixed, they started to be addressed. We care about our wards and that thread was created so we wouldn't have others blindly following Chucks setup without understanding the faults. Many see their livestock as consumable consumer product that can just be replaced if something dies. We however put a high emphasis on the quality of life of the stock that we are responsible for.
We should keep the focus on improving Chucks tank for the sake of his livestock.

Sensitive? Unlike you, I view my tank as a living organism that needs constant care. I thrive on creating the best environment that I possibly can for my corals, inverts and fish. I do a ton of research and then apply it onto my tank. I have been through horrendous disasters (some through my own admission, and some not), and I have learned a lot. As a result, I can say that I have an exceptional tank. Many in the GTA have come and viewed it in person. It may not be as glamorous from the outside, but from the inside, its speaks for itself. Maybe you should come down one time and see it yourself (instead of doing things like this on message forums)
