My new 600 gallon reef

Actually this habit grates on me because it's always someone more proud of their equipment than their husbandry. I am just as much of an equipment junkie as the next reefer, but really, list all the stuff I bought? These guys that list 5 different Deltec items really creep me out.

Most the reefers on the site have smaller tanks, and moderately expensive equipment. I'm probably one of the more extravagant of the members (former member). They want you to list your equipment to tell you what you're doing wrong and how you wasted your money buying some piece of equipment. They justify it to themselves as helping others.

This isn't news, LoL. I've heard complaints about you and there are also others on other sites. I've also been forwarded PM's about myself and others that people don't agree with or simply as an fyi. I expect as much, comes with the job.

It shouldn't come with the job. Its about customer service. A moderator is supposed to moderate, not interject in discussions b/w members. I can't remember any moderator posting in this thread. For anyone following this thread, just so you know the owner of AP stated that the site makes little to no money and relies on member donations. They have a decent number of members and good amount of traffic (few hundred thousand hits/day), a fair number of paying sponsors, yet they can't generate profit. It's really a sad case of poor business sense and it starts with customer service. That site has nothing but potential, but unfortunately it is underachieving in my opinion.

do you think 2 tangs that will get almost 2 feet long should be housed in a 200 gallon aquarium? do you think someone who's never kept 2 zebrasoma tangs together should be giving anyone advice about stocking zebrasoma tangs when their only expeirence is second hand knowledge from a "friend's" tank?

btw, has that guy that has been bashing chuck behind his back come out of the closet yet or is he still insulting him vicariously through bitter ap members?

I almost hate to post this, but last week I purchased a 6" male Red Sea Blonde Naso from Grant (tangdiver), at Safari Land and added to the tank. The price was fantastic so I couldn't pass up. This is the second Blonde Naso in the tnak and I have to report that they are getting along fine with no issues..

Goodwin9, In my experience I've found naso tangs and all other unicorns to be fairly dossile in nature. It seems you have found the same. Hopefully it is a male and gets some long streamers coming off the tail. Makes it look much more spectacular in my opinion. I have had a regular naso tang for a few years now, but no streamers. I think its a girl. Ugly girls!

Visually brighter, and bright from front to back. I have never taken any measurements regarding actual light output.

Ironic the topic of tangs and getting banned from AP came up in this thread (well not really!)....this same issue was one of the main issues associated with me geting banned from that site!

Cougarman it wasn't just that thread that lead to your banning, it was actually only a small part of it but hey you believe that if it makes you feel better...

Dave those lumanarc 3 reflectors are great but did you actually measure the difference or are the numbers based on visual observations? I don't doubt the increase but I was wondering if the numbers were subjective. Either way good to hear you're happy with them.

Haha, no way!. That's hilarious. And now you've been selected tank of the month on RC. What was the argument about tangs with you?

On a seperate note. How do you like your Beckett skimmer? How long have you had it. I just upgraded to an MRC-6R dual Beckett from my AquaC EV-2000. I was told it was a bad decision on AP to go with a Beckett. So far so good though. Technology has really changed in the last 5 yrs. This skimmer is really powerfull. Beats the pants off the spray injection design. You've got me thinking about changing my reflectors too. The batwings I have are just as old and the reflectivity as diminished alot. I'm thinking of dropping down to 3 lights with better reflectors.

Ya banned huh... and that's why you're logged into 220G reading the Digital SLR thread as I type this. Banned are just that, banned. You're on a extended time out for your behaviour. You hadn't even posted about tangs for over 10 months before you were placed there, remember I can see your history even if you can't. Heck I was about to ask about taking you off your time out seeing as how you tried to post 6 days ago and for the other reasons I have told you before (none of which has anything to do with TOTM) but unfortunately that's not my call.

It's too bad you didn't take measurements to compare, it may have been interesting to see the difference but hey brighter is still brighter.

No argument specifically about tangs, just personal differences with the owner is all. Had we never met, it would of just been 2 guys who do no agree on the internet and I would still be on that site perhaps.

Not sure who would argue against a beckett skimmer, it is one of several styles of skimmers, with advantages and disadvantages like all pieces of equipment. I bought mine in 2003 and it was about the best out there are that time, and would never sell it. I do not care for the shorter ones with less contact time however. And don't think twice about the reflectors - I thought about buying them every day for a month, and when I got them I did not regret it one bit and thought they were worth every penny (and that does not happen alot in this hobby!).

Yes, my status tends to change from time to time there...I had some good advice for that thread you noted...you may have seen I have figured out how to use my camera around the reef, oh well. And extended time out? What does that even mean?

It shouldn't change if you haven't done anything wrong. I'll have a talk with the higher ups.

BTW, ya I can tell by the macro shots on your store page.

Not sure if this is a way to identify male vrs female, but in looking at the two tangs, the first one has was looks like to me, white barbs on the two yellow spots at the beginning of the tail. In the second picture, (my original Blonde Naso), you can't see these "barbs". These were the best pictures I could get. This is the only difference that I can see between these two fish.

I anxiously await your feedback after chatting with the higher ups. With Goodwin's permission, please post it here in this thread.

...and I gotta say I like this Goodwin9 kid - the odasity adding another tang in that 600. NICE pictures of that new fish. He/she is a beauty. Wish I knew what it was like to have a 600G...

I am a real "sucker" for good deals.... Your welcome to help clean the tank if you really want to know what it is like to have a 600 gallon tank......... There are days I wished it was glass.......

Some days we all are. If my wife wasn't home yesterday I would have had a new nanocube. Unfortunately she was looking over my shoulder right when I read the ad. SOL right from the get go.

that new tang looks great. the color diff. could also be that the fish is from a diff. area of the world also. also in the pics. it looks like one has an orage top fin and the others is more yellowish.

BTW if you wish it were glass you can just give me that tank and then switch to glass.

i personally went with a dart needlewheel over a beckett for ease of maintenance and efficiency based on my research

and lol @ all the ap bannings, i'm scared to even go to that site now
