Trigger Systems makes those beautiful isolation tanks that fit in your main display for new arrivals. Because he has a CNC router, they look amazing.

All of your mangroves are exhibiting growth. What is their water source? Is that just a vat of water, or is that replenished with reef water often? Any flow down there? Sand? All of those tips look green and healthy, so it should be a matter of time like Jonathan pointed out.

There was an article about mangroves:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-12/ac/feature/index.php
No sand and no flow. I am adding half tank water along with half RO water. Now that I have the lights, I am going to try and figure a way to use the egg crate and put some in the sumps.

Experimenting with the camera a little, testing out some of the setting I never knew how to use.....Looks like it has a chip on the old shoulder...

well, you definitely should give them some sand and more polluted water. Even planting them in a submerged bucket within a sump is good idea.

But seriously, mangroves grow slower than coral. The ones you have look to be in excellent shape so I have no concern about that. The first ones I got were freebees from an LFS because they had them for months and they never opened.

I sent Marc some from this batch I received and his do have leaves sprouting. He had his in sand and uses the lights I just added. Urbansage got some out of this batch and his are in his refugium, but haven't sprouted leaves. I'm not sure what he is doing for lighting. Can't wait to see what difference the light will make.

I think urbansage is just using natural sun to light his fuge.

I am not sure if I want to try mangroves yet, I cant get any other macro alage to grow so I can't see this being any diffrent.

Well I took a couple of pics of how y mangroves are planted:

And look who zipped through the pic! Can't get a decent shot of him unless he's trying to get my goat!

The flow through this is just what passes through the skimmer. This is an old sump so not "correctly" set up but it sems to be wirking well for the purpose.

Are they planted in sand, or just resting in the sump? New addition looks nice!

Chuck, if you take a plant cutting and put it in a glass of water, it will stay alive and even send out roots. It'll take a long time. Add some Miracle Grow fertilizer to the water, and you'll get the same results a bit more quickly.

Here's a cutting from a houseplant that I put in a vase of water a long time ago. It should have been potted by now.

Your mangroves are part of a natural filtration we see in nature. They need fertilizer as much as they need good lighting. If the salinity matches, I would suggest you replace the water with some reef water.

I did add some Miracle Grow...I'm bound and determined to get some leaves sprouting from these mangroves......

mine are in the sand, but send roots wherever. That tank is a cespool spo there is plenty of nutrients. The red wisps are the Ogo plant I tossed in there, but you can see the sand at the bottom.

You know what's funny Marc? I have that same same plant in a vase with only water...the original one just got too heavy and I couldn't keep it upright. Then I had to "frag" it.

I did the same thing. Mine got so tall that it hit the ceiling and bent over, so I cut off the top. I brought it back down to 6' tall, and saved that tip that had new growth sprouting, and put it in a glass. There's a thread about it in the Photography forum.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=825774&highlight=plant

The top was capped with saran wrap as you can see in that thread, but growth burst out of it anyway, as well as new shoots from the soil and the stalk.

I need to repot the big plant as it really needs more soil to grow, and maybe plant the little one at the same time. Or maybe put them all in a bigger pot.

That ivy in that thread is out of control, and I'm really thinking about cutting off everything lying on the tile floor to rejuvenate the core plant again.

Even the ivy in my bathroom window has turned into a jungle of leaves, obscuring the full window almost entirely. I don't have many plants, but the ones I do do every well.

They look like they're very well cared for though. I've seen so many hippos that look like they're nearly starved. All of those fish have beautiful colors.

They are super fat. We talked about water quality while we were there as well as later that evening at the BBQ.

Chuck, look at all the lights that are going over this 600g tank.

And I thought you might like seeing this picture. It was from our Tank Tour yesterday, the guy has a 540g tank.

WOW..that's a lot of light, 3200 watts, makes the 2200 watts I have look like a night light..

Did you do a tang count in the tank that you posted this picture. Looks like some very nice tangs. I see one of my favorites in there. The pictures looks very bright. Did you happen to catch what they were using for lighting? Thank you for the information and picture!
