In general my tangs are civil to each other, but if I add a new tang, depending on the species and size, then the Bristletooth and the xanthopterus, are the 1st to harrass and the only ones that actually will inflict wounds. After a couple days things settle down. I'm thinking of trying the tank within the tank method that was suggested to goodwin9. I have some extra acrylic lying around that I could use for it.
I might have to have you build one for me too, seems my builder is a little slow....

I think it's a good idea. My nasty ones are the yellows and purple...they gang up on new-comers.

That's interesting b/c my purple and Yellow are indifferent to newcomers. Just goes to show every system is different, and no one rule applies to all tanks. It's what makes this hobby great.

By the time I actually get around to doing it among other things the wife has listed for me, you'll probably have yours in the tank.

Great pics Chuck....Love the Sohal.

Hey Cougar any chance of a Camara upgrade for you in the future? Just curious.:D

LOL, it works great underwater. I should post some of my hawaii pics. Maybe I have to take a swim in the tank!!

Chuck, how big is that Sohal? He looks tiny compared to most that I have seen.

Cougarman I tried a clown trigger in my reef for a while, because I heard of someone that did it. He would eat everything except the corals ect until one day he decieded to go crazy for the snails and hermits. I just decieded to get rid of him before the problem escalated. If I had a bigger tank Id consider doing it again. I may try a niger trigger next.

Well, I thought that I would try and put together a nice mushroom rock and bought 20 Red Ricordea mushrooms out of Florida. First time that I have ordered from this supplier, so can anyone in the know, verify that these are indeed ricordeas?

My second question for all knowegable, is what is the best way to tryand fasten these to a rock?

Third question, most of these are probably dime size right after cutting them from the bag, so how much room should allow between them on the rock?

Upon closer look, I see that there are two green ones in the batch...

You can put them in a tray of crushed coral. The idea is to get them to grow onto the substrate, then you can glue the substrate to some rock. Using Super Glue Gel works for me.

If they have bits of rubble now, you can do it immediately.

yep those are Ricordea's and very nice looking. I really like the green ones. keep me in mind when it's time to frag :D

your best bet would be to get a plastic container and fill it with LR rubble, put the Ricordea's on top and cover with veil in a low flow area. they will attach in 1-2 weeks. then just glue the rubble to a bigger rock.

ok I just noticed I am to slow.

Thanks Marc & Sam, it's nice to know that the guy shipped what was promised. Price was so good I wondered if I was really going to get what he promised.

Going back to my original questions, when it comes time to attach them to a rock(s), how much spacing should I allow between mushrooms? Should I attach them to one big rock, or split them up in smaller groups on several rocks? I really have no idea on how big these will get. I guess I was expecting them to be a little larger (quarter size), or will they open up once them get in the tank? (it seems I always end up doing things a little backwards...)

they will open up after a little time, then you should have an idea on how far to space them apart but still leave about 1" in between for extra growth. if they get to cluttered they can move on their own.

I have a rock of shrooms that has about 30 shrooms all next to each other, no space between, and they look great.

Personally I would attach maybe five each to small rocks so that you can place them and make a judgement as to how they react to the flow and light in your tank. Once you have that, you can move the colonies to the best place.

The purple mushrooms I got from you for the nano cube have grown like weeds, many have moved from the rocks to the glass in the tank.

I have been looking at some of the Ricordea rocks LA is selling on Diver's Den and am amazed as to what they are asking for a rock with 20 mushroom on it. But theirs look so much larger in the pictures.....

I agree, the wife likes the softies which is why the 46 gal. is gonna be a softy tank just for her. and I have been looking at Ricordea's also and have seen some go for 50.00+ just for 1 polyp:eek: I guess all in the color and whats in demand.

Hey Goodwin9, everythng is looking great!

BTW, those mushrooms you got I believe are Discosoma sanctithome, "St. Thomas polyps", different than your run of the mill Florida Ricordea. The green shrooms appear to be some type of Discosoma too.
