From what I understand red rics do not actually exist. I checked out the Corallimorpharians forum and came across this thread that you might be interested in checking out:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=852866&highlight=red+ricordea

In my experience Purple Up is only very successful when I maintain a high alkalinity.
Thank you for the link, but now I am even more confused. Could some one please explain in simple terms, (something I might understand), the difference between a yuma & recordea mushroom????

I've got it growing on valonia. :D
I've got it growing on valonia (Bubble algae)

This would have cleared thigns up from the beginning for me and I wouldn't have had to ask a dumb question......

Ricordia are in the mushroom family. That's a pretty big family.

Within it, there are a few you normally purchase:
Ricordia
Hairy Mushrooms
Frilly Mushrooms
Discosoma (most 'regular') Mushrooms - either one color, striped, even bulls-eye (Tongan Bulls Eye)... link1 link2 link3

The ricordia that is just a bunch of tiny bubbles (like what I purchased from www.Zoanuts.com that you saw) are Ricordia Floridea. link

A different kind of Ricordia with a ring of larger elongated bubbles is called Ricordea yuma - link

Hope that helps.

I didn't know you didn't know what valonia was. It is also called Sailor's Eyeballs because some get huge. Kinda crazy. I do have an algea page, but it doesn't cover every kind we encounter.

How are your mangroves doing? Mine have grown several inches.

Have gotten on heck of a headache from the glue, I will be pleasantly surprised if...

1. The coupler fits to the pump coupler and doesn't leak. Same problem as before, no valve between the sump and the pump..

2. All the pieces I glued together don't drip or leak.

3. The ADVIL works and gets rid of my headache...

I went to feed the carpet anemone only to find it had found something else to eat. Couldn't quite tell from the tail what it was eating.

Maybe I missed your update, But what did the carpet Anemone end up eating from your tank? Is this a common problem with carpet anemones? I WAS thinking about getting one but now I don't know if I really want one.

Thanks, Josh

Chuck, how big is that Sohal? He looks tiny compared to most that I have seen.

Cougarman I tried a clown trigger in my reef for a while, because I heard of someone that did it. He would eat everything except the corals ect until one day he decieded to go crazy for the snails and hermits. I just decieded to get rid of him before the problem escalated. If I had a bigger tank Id consider doing it again. I may try a niger trigger next.

I picked them up at Menard's (similar to Home Depot & Lowes). They were less than $3. a piece and so for they have done a nice job. Manifold for another tank will use the same valves.

I don't know for sure, I think that it might have been an Anthias. I don't think that it caught the fish while it was alive, or at least I hope not........

One of my Blue Dot Jawfish has found a new home in the tank. Up near the front where it can check out all of the action..

Tell us about your mangrove growth when you get a second.
Leaves continue to pop out on the pods. They are still in a tub that I am changing the water out with tank water once a week. I am still adding a few drops of Miracle Grow each week.

Hey Chuck.
I know I promised some updates in various places but I have had visitors from Denmark for the last two - three weeks now and that has taken all my time. Also why my own tank thread has been rather dormant.

But seeing your mangroves I thought I would add my own update since they came from your batch.
