My new 90 gallon trimless SPS tank

Here are some new pictures after some rearranging. I replaced the NO light over the refugium with a Giesseman mercury vapor fixture. The light is really yellow but I should get some great growth of my C. Prolifera with it. It is an absolutely beutiful fixture and I like that the finish matches my NovaII halides.

Does anyone have an ID on this little guy?

Thanks newmoon. I am really happy with my Giesseman lights. Aside from the great ballasts and all they have the paint jobs and curves of a sports car. Since they are hanging in the middle of my living room I didnt want something that is ugly when the lights go out!

I hear ya Thunnus. I was going to get the Nova's but in the end choosed the Maristar fixture(equally expensive!) since it came with the T5's.
Yes, to me the tank also needs to look good with the lights on...... and off. :)

Wow! I was looking at Invincible569's thread on Japanese LFS tanks and was inspired by the trimless tanks I saw, so I did the obligatory search and found your thread. Your tank looks great! I'm very much into contemporary design and architecture, so the tank has to be as artful of a creation as the reef within. I'm very impressed with what you've done.

How would you describe your experience with GlassCages?

edit: You also mention the manufacturer put bracing on your tank for piece of mind. I don't see any. Is it indeed there?

Thanks for your compliments. They are appreciated. Yes there is a 2"x1/2" starfire glass euro-brace along the insidefront of the tank. I was apprehensive about having it put in there but I have no regrets since as you stated it is hardly noticeable.

Glass cages was a pleasure to work with. There prices cannot be beat, they did EXACTLY what I told them, and I recieved the tank here in Texas withing 2 weeks though I could not fill it immediatley because the silicone needed to finish curing.

I will never again buy a tank with trim. They look a million times better without. Thanks! :)

in the end choosed the Maristar fixture

I almost went that route also, until I saw one in person. It is beautiful, but large. I like little and simple. Plus I dont use actinics as dawn/dusk because it is unnatural. I just compensate for the lack of blue spectrum in my halide bulb choice.

And since this thread came back from the dead I figured I would post a couple more pics! I was really worried in the first couple weeks after the move. The large acro colony in the center of this pictured almost bleached, but as you can see it is doing just fine now! I took this shot across the surface of the water so it is distorted.

These are my only 2 clams. On the right is my Derasa that is about 8" wide. I am trying to find a good home for him. On the left is my green Squamosa. It is the prettiest Sq. that I have ever seen in person.

Good to hear they deliver quickly to Texas, as I reside in Dallas now. I really want to go with a large setup but as I'm leasing a 3rd floor loft space, I think a 120 would be a little excessive. I think I may go with a custom 36" x 24" x 20" tank from Glass Cages and get Tranquil Scapes here in Dallas to custom fab a minimalist stand for me.

If you're in DFW anytime soon, I highly recommend Tranquil Scapes. Vincent and Liem are super cool, very attentive to customer service and have a great selection. Plus, they have a professional carpentry setup in the back complete with a computer controlled router! They can fabricate anything you can draw (or photograph!).

May I be so gauche to ask how much you paid for your tank? Was the trimless/euro bracing extra?

Edit: I LOVE the open top! That's exactly what I'm going for in my next setup. Sweet pics!

Of course. I cannot remember the exact price but I know that it was no more than $300 after shipping. The trimless did not cost me anything in addition to the standard tank price, but the fact that in order to go trimless on this size tank, you need to go from 3/8" to 1/2" glass did cost a little extra and starfire glass is about $50 extra for just the front pane.

Make certain that your stand builder knows what he is doing. These tanks sit flat on the foam padding and stand, so if there are any errors in building it, it could very easily crack the bottom.

Holy crap, $300 after shipping? That's pretty damn reasonable! You answered another question of mine: how much starfire did you use :P Considering front starfire, euro bracing, trimless - man, I'm really impressed. I'll have to talk to Glass Cages in the near future.

Tranquil Scapes has been making custom stands for the last three years and are pretty good at what they do.

Keep up the good work and keep posting pics! Thanks!

Jason, did you really pay just over 300 after shipping. Did you forget to put another zero at the end? If you only payed 300 that is an awesome deal. Did you sell your orange monti cap? If not I want it. I went to aquatek and I think your tank was the tank of the month. Awesome tank, can you post and updated pic.

You never have to ask me twice to show off my tank with updated pics. The one below was taken this morning. I just looked it up and I paid exactly $342. Hell of a deal. You can see the orange cap in the front of the tank. I was going to sell it but I cant get it off the rock. I already broke the front off when I was trying to get it off. I will sell or trade you a large frag if you want it. Jason
