My randalli pistol shrimp keeps blocking my cave!

I have this great natural cave that my Yellow Watchman Goby would sit out and perch, and the few times I saw my pistol shrimp was outside the cave. Well the pistol shrimp keeps blocking it up.......I've knocked it down twice. I've had them about a month.

If I knock it down, say even every night, will he eventually stop?

Am I causing him a LOT of stress?

Any suggestions? Otherwise I don't think I'll EVER see my Goby, and surely never my shrimp.

Keep in mind this is a 12 gallon NanoCube.

You are thinking about it all wrong...it is not your cave...it is his, and he will rearrange it as he sees fit. Sometimes you get lucky and they keep it open where you can see in, and sometimes they open up on the backside of the rock so you can't see. I doubt you can keep knocking it down and he will stop. He will just have that much more work to do everyday, blocking it back up.

damn animals!!!

Clownfish ignoring frogspaw, hosting in an green open brain!
Pistol shrimp blocking caves, making my goby AWOL!

Don't they realize how much time, money, and thought I've put into their new home!

bastards!

Don't be too mad, he can't help himself. Alpheids that partner with gobies are hard-wired to work on their burrows. At night they seal up the burrows, re-open them in the morning, and during the day constantly re-arrange the sand & rocks. They couldn't stop doing it if they tried!

I'm just going to keep knocking it down every few days

otherwise I never see my Yellow Watchman Goby, and he won't get a chance to eat!

I knocked it down last night before I started feeding and my Goby AND my shrimp......ITS SO COOOL when I get to see 'em

I should probably invest in a aquarium glove if I'm going to be sticking my hand in my 12 gallon every few days

That's how they assist shrimp gobies to breed: they protect the young in that cave, and act as gatekeeper. It's a very cool process. If your ywg didn't like it, he'd pick another spot.

neato, didn't realize it

But its obvious to me that the YWG likes it when the cave is open since he perches on the live rock opening the cave

I wish I had my camera, its a pretty big cave, its nothing the pistol shrimp made, its a cave in the live rock
