My SPS Reef

In the fts I can't seem to find the nano wave box you said you use.could you point it out for me.also amazing tank and whenever you get a chance post updates of the orange passion progression.beautiful tank.thanks for sharing!

Its an honor to be held in such high regard when in comes to led tanks, Big thanks there!!!

Aqua80, i love your photography work and always look forward to seeing your photos when you post them!!

IMO the lighting is only one piece of the puzzle and while its important, its probably less important than stuff like stability and nutrient import/export.

I think your right about food, i feed nothing special but do try and feed alot, i run bio pellets, gfo, skim heavy and have a full refugium with sand bed, rock, and macro algae so nutrient export isnt a worry, in fact i probably over do it on the export side, but that just means i can feed alot more without worrying about things like p04.

So daily(at least 4-5 or more times a week) i try and get brs reef chili in tank, around 1/4 tsp. worth, the little scoop they give you is too small for me. i shut my returns down but leave my power heads running and give it 20 minutes before i start my return up again. my fish get flakes daily(nls) probably 1 tsp worth. and i try and feed frozen mysis a few times a week in the evening, all my feedings i leave the power heads running but the returns off.

the other thought i've always had is some food must be generated by my refugium because there are so many micro pods and organisms in there that they must get into the tank and get eaten up by corals..

Really appreciate the information.

I am no longer using the Wavebox, it was great but had a pump issue after a long life so instead of fixing it I replaced it with a Jabeo wp40, since then I have replaced my other powerheads as well and currently run 2x wp40, one is else mode and the other in w1 mode.

Hope that helps

I have to agree with Sahin mate, absolutely stunning saturated and vibrant colors on healthy looking corals which is not the norm in most LED illuminated tanks is see. The vids are great too, looking forward to watching things grow out for you.
Can't believe how sharp this FTS is - terrific photo skills :)

Duke, this tank is an inspiration for us LED guys. The corals colors and growth are stunning. You are honestly making me think about sticking with LED for my other tank builds.

Thanks again everyone for the nice compliments.

Thought i'd finish out this year again with a photo, ill also throw in photos from the previous years.

cheers.gif

Cheers to a successful 2014 everyone!!!

Wow, your tank has come a long way from the softy dominated days. :)

Have a HAPPY NEW year mate. Cant wait to see your tank develope over this year.

took a few photos today. lots of its small still . but im ok with that, pretty much everything in my tank started from very small 1" frags.. its nice to see them grow out.. even if it can take years.. lol.

That RR Orange Passion and the Palmers blue just look super! :)

Please please do a LONG (at least 10 mins hehe) top down video shoot of your tank. I really enjoy the updates to this journal-this is one of my favorite build threads. Loving the acro colours you are getting. :D

Wow!! Awesome.
I wish my orange passion still had orange polyps..
Looks great, Duke

The new polyps on mine are yellow, but the older, larger polyps are definitely orange. Mine is approaching a small colony now and is definitely a coral that stands out due to the striking contrast of colours on this piece.

how do u dose? is it 2 part? how much u dose ? do u use gfo or bio pellets do u use carbon? plz give us a little insite how u have ur take setup and maintance and things of that nature...u have a great looking tank and im sure some would like to know..

Your Orange Passion is the closest I've seen to the pics posted everywhere I would be really happy with that Piece. Where did you get it from and how old is it?

Thank you, i got it for free(actually i won a logo contest for it.. lol) and the above photos are 3 weeks of growth, it was a fresh cut 1/2" piece, its still 1/2" or so but encrusting nicely. a friend local to me had a huge colony and it really is a super nice coral.. i can only hope to grow it big some day..

Thank you very much, i dose bulk 2 part additives, around 100ml a day, i use GFO, bio pellets, skim heavy and i dont use carbon often.. i have and do sometimes but arent currently.. i see no effects either way with carbon in my tank. i think i got into some more detail back a few pages on the tank setup itself, i do weekly or bi weekly water changes of 10% depending on my schedule. Basically im a believer in strong lighting, low nutrient levels(0 nitrates and less than .05 P04) heavy feeding and heavy nutrient exporting. in my experience if you can keep your nutrients down while providing alot of food for your fish and corals your bound to have some success with SPS and get some good colors out of them too.

i wish i could, my tank is poorly setup for top down shots, its a bummer i never thought of that back when i got it going, i have to slide all of my DIY led setup back out of the way in order to fit my camera into the canopy. and even then i still do not have a viewing box, so im just shooting above the water and you get reflections pretty bad, my friend is due for a visit soon and hes going to bring his new gopro so ill be posting an in tank underwater video shortly here, ill make sure i get some good close ups from the top with it!!!

Pretty impressive collection Duke. You must be driving to Toronto all the time! even through all the storms we've had? :) So are you coming up to TO for the recent RR shipment?

Thanks, I actually don't make it down there that often, I've only been to reef raft 3 times in my life. A friend has many RR pieces and that's who I got most of them from. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll pick up some of the left overs from next trip down that way

Great shots... Particularly like that palmers and orange passion pics. Selling that orange passion to Dave for a steal was not my brightest move but I never got it too get fully orange polyps... Should have given it a better spot and more time.

Anyway nice work as always
