My tank after 1 year.

You mention that you test for iodide and use the Hanna checker, but it tests for Iodine, not iodide, and the resolution is in increments of .1 ppm. My understanding is that the reef tank should be at about .01 ppm.

What Iodine levels are trying to maintain? Or iodide levels and how do you determine Iodide from the Hanna checker?

No I don't feed my corals, but I do feed my fish 2x daily a homemade frozen preparation that has everything including algae paste, I read somewhere that fishes don't process the food very well and a lot of the nutritional value of the food remains intact in the excrements, I did one experiment 6 months ago, I only fed dry food for nearly 2 months and the corals started to get pale, so I think the frozen food produces a poop that is better for corals, perhaps because it's a lot more soft or because it contains a better nutritional value.

Ho do you go about feeding twice a day when you're not home 15 days out of the month? You have someone tend to the tank for you?

Congratulations on the beautiful tank. Its absolutely amazing. A true inspiration. Please keep up the good work and more importantly please keep feeding us with the coral eye candy!

Thank you so much for the kind words Reefy!

I have a 6 year old daughter that with the nanny supervision tries to overfeed the fish to death everyday. For the rest I keep an eye online with the RKE.

Wow,I wish I could get some frags like that here. The aquarium looks great.

Thanks Sandhog, I don't know where you are from, but if we can get them here in Brazil, anyone can!! There's a government agency here that makes everything they don't know illegal, so it's been a real challenge thru out the years to get corals here.

Sorry, I made a mistake please disregard the hanna checker, I don't test for iodide, I do test for iodine, I keep it at 0,08 I've been using a test that is still not available on the shelf.

what size were the frags when you put them in? any pics when the were first introduced?

They were about 2 in, I do have some pics from the corals from the beginning, but not here in this computer I'll post some pics latter when I get them.

Interesting observation. It seems to make scene. Your defiantly doing something right because you corals look awesome.

wow!!! and this is only a 1 year old tank, cant wait to see this next year!! you will have to start planning an upgrade at that time!!!

How fast did your pellets start to work? do you have a movie of how fast they are moving in your reactor?

Could you share your homemade frozen food recipe? I have been thinking of making my own food and getting away from the dry flake food.

You know what I would really love to see............... your sump set up!

Any pictures on that?

I had them running in another aquarium for 30 days before I started this one, I've been using them in this tank from day 1 and my tank cycled in a week, in 2 weeks I added fish and corals, and my SPS never bleached or got brown in the process and I never had any nutrients spikes.

I have them running in a GEO UMC420 reactor with a 2000 liters/hour pump, I'll make a video and post for you this weekend when I get back.

I'll post it for you this weekend I got from Matthew Wittenrich's book and did some upgrades. You should consider feeding frozen your fish and corals will be happy!
