My Tank Is Up And Running!!!

Well haven't checked the paremeters in a couple days. Don't want too! Kind of like a watched pot never boils. Probably test this weekend to see what it's doing.

One of my seio 1500's went to crap! Unplugged them to reposition them and then plugged them back in and left the house. When I got back home it didnt' look like one was working so I stuck my hand in front of it and it wasn't. So I plugged it in a few times and it still wouldn't work. Then took it all apart cleaned it (only in the tank a little over a week so that didn't amount to much) and plugged it in and still nothing.

So I took it apart AGAIN and really looked at it close and found out that the magnet on the impellar was split all the way down the length of it. And it was on both sides exactly 180 deg. of each other. Not sure if that's why it stopped working or not. Also not sure if it came that way. Must of I've never dropped it. Of course you can never trust those UPS guys too much! :D

I shipped this one back yesterday and have a new one on the way and it should be here by the weekend. Not a huge deal seeing as I don't really have anything in the tank anyway.

That small frag of anthelia that was on the rock is starting to get pretty big already. I can't believe how fast that stuff grows. I already have a new polyp growing on it!. I'll probably be throwing some out before I know it.

Here's a picture of the impellar, there's another crack just like it on the opposite side.

I've got more of that anthelia than I know what to do with. I'll be taking a razor blade to it pretty soon. I want to try to get it growing on my back glass, not on the rocks...

I had a seio do the same thing. I figured that the stupid thing stopped and wouldn't restart. When it was just sitting there stuck the center broke. At least that was how I rationalized that it was my fault. The good news is if you can go thru, like, 5 or 6 seio's you can kick yourself for not getting a tunze ;-)

If the tunze's weren't so much $$$ i'd be all over it but they're WAY out of my budget.

You have to kind of expect it a little bit from the seios I mean they are a Rio product! :D

Okay guys I'm confused. I've had my tank up for 3 weeks now with the "cured" rock in it. My test kit's STILL saying the same thing.

Ammonia at 0.25ppm and the nitrites at 0.05ppm. It's been the same ever since I got the test kit.

Is the test kit anygood? I just bought it. It's a Red Sea Marine Lab Test Kit. I thought this one was supposed to be pretty goo.

You might try taking a sample of water to the LFS and have them test it. My first ammonia test would always show .5ppm and when they tested it it was zero.

Yeah...get a second opinion. Also, there may not be enough of anything in there for the cycle to start.

I'm pretty sure the cycle started. Their was quite a bit of live stuff growing on the rocks and stuff when I put it in the tank.

I think i'd rather risk it being cycled than trust The Emporium's test kits! Anyone in Waterloo area have a good test kit they could test my water with? :D

Well I tested my water straight out of the RO unit and it came up with the exact same results! Ammonia 0.25 and Nitrites 0.05. Assuming the RO water should be 0 that should mean that the tank is at 0 as well. Right???

You shouldn't assume your water out of the RO unit is zero. Sometimes tap water contains ammonia and nitrite and it is possible the RO unit isn't removing it. Getting another test kit to verify will be important to assume the RO water is fine.

Hey Matt, when you come tommorow bring a water sample of pure RO and a sample of your tank water.

I got some anthelia and green tree frags you can have, oh yeah and some very small SPS frags if you want em, im too lazy to glue em to a rock so they are planted in my sandbed.

Well I went down to Jeremy's yesterday and did some water testing. And everything tested out pretty good. The only thing that was way off was the salinity. I have been using a cheap hydrometer so I had Jeremy test it with his refractometer. My hydrometer was reading 1.026 according to Jeremy's refractometer it was about 1.029!

Jeremy hooked me up with some frags from his tank and his mom's. Got a green tree frag, some anthelia, and a couple SPS frags. THANKS JEREMY AND LORI!!!

Anyway, when I got home I got the salinity down to about 1.027 assuming my hydrometer is .003 off. I will continue to slowly get the salinity back down to 1.026. I then started acclimating the frags. And got them all glued down and in the tank.

Don't really have any pics right now, lights are still off. The anthelia is partially opened up. I'll get some pics when everything is opened up all the way.

Also got my new seio to replace the broken one. I hope this one lasts longer than a week and a half! (stupid rio products)

Well found one thing out today! Superglue Gel doesn't work very good on Anthelia! Went to move the piece of rock I had it on and it started blowing around the tank! :( So i took a toothpick and poked it through it and into a hole in the rock. Not sure if that will work or not but that's what I did.

Just for future reference SUPER GLUE SUCKS!!!

I'll def. be trying a dif. way to attach frags from now on. I suppose for SPS superglue works pretty good but not for softies.

My anthelia is opened up real good despite having a toothpick Jammed through it.

When the lights kicked on this morning I see that my Green Tree frag is now MIA. I had glued that one as well. Been looking all over the tank and can't find it. If I were a bettin man I'd say it's either in the overflow or in the sump. :(

Guess I'll have to do some more looking.
