My Tank Is Up And Running!!!

Also got a couple frags from xroads. Got a piece of kenya tree and something purple! :D I didn't even see him throw it in the bag so I'm not sure what it is. Also got the clownfish from him.

I bought the Orange spotted goby at the Emporium. They had a sweet purple wrasse for only $30 but it was swimming upside down and bent in half so I figured I'd better pass on that one! I was going to go to Fish Focus instead but didn't really know where it was and I didn't have their number to see if they were going to be around so I didn't even bother.

You are getting there Matt!! Only a few things each week will make you want to get more. What kind of clown did you get? Will your rock anemone host it? Is its name Nemo? It is soo much fun trying to take pics of the fish. Post some when you can.

That anemone looks to be a "tulip"anemone. It will not sting corals and they are actually pretty nice looking. They will not host clowns.

I think the clown is an occeloris. Not 100% sure on that. I don't think clowns usually host in rock anenome's. They only get about the size of a 50c piece I think. (someone feel free to correct me on that)

Yes the clownfish is named NEMO! You gotta love kids! :D What's even funnier is that they named the Orange spotted goby MARLIN! Whatever I guess. Now they want to know when we can get Dori. Unfortunatley they don't know this but we can get a Dori but it WON"T be a blue tang! Maybe an achilles or powder brown, we'll have to wait and see on that one.

There you go! :D Seeing as you're the resident clown fish professional I'll take your word for it!

Got some more pics. Finally got a good one of the Toadstool Leather opened up all the way! :D And also got a decent one of my Orange Spotted Goby. The clownfish is impossible to take a decent picture of. He never stops moving!

Looks great! Happy to see that toadstool is settling in. He truly is a bulletproof coral that adds a lot of interest to a tank. He was just outgrowing the spot I had for him. The wife is still torqued that I let him go :).

Keep posting pics!

Yeah he looks really awesome in there. Really helps kind of fill the tank up a little. Not sure if he's attached yet or not. I think he's pretty much in his permanent home though so he ain't going to be moved around too much.

Tell your wife I'll sell her a frag of it real cheap if she wants one! :D

Found my first couple pests in the tank when i was looking at it.

Got my first aptaisia starting to grow. (thanks Lori!) :D

I'm getting 2 pepperment shrimp in a week or so hopefully they'll take care of it before they get out of hand.

Also got one little bubble of bubble algae. What's the best way to take it off the rock? I've heard if they pop then you'll have them all over the tank. Can't see buying an emerald crab for 1 bubble.

Edit: Make that 2 aptaisia's growing! :(

for the bubble algea, you will probably have to pull the whole rock out and pop it off with your fingers, then scrub the rock with an old toothbrush, then rinse it and your hands off to get rid of anything clinging.

You'll also want to find out what caused it in the first place.

The bubble came in on some corals I got this weekend.

How big do I let it get before I twist/pull it off the rock? I would say it's a little smaller than a pea right now.

When they gow they will actually push their way out of the rock. Let it grow until it is easily removable with light finger pressure.

Depends on the rock too. I had one really embeded in a piece of LR rubble. Bubble was about the size of a marble or a dime. I worked on it for a while but it eventually ripped where it was attached to the rock. This was over my utility sink, not in the tank. So that rubble went into the trash can...

Emeralds will eat other things than just bubble algae. I have about 8 or them and they are fine so far in my tank as far as I can tell. But I don't have a lot of corals yet, just hitchikers. But I like my emerald crabs.

I pull bubbles off with some tweezers. As long as you keep an eye on what's happening in your tank you'll be fine. I have certain spots that aren't visible to the tank where I've found some bubble algae. I try to get most of it but I also realize that in a fully established reef tank you will have things that are considered bad but don't always necessarily require you to pull everything out and scrub it down/start new.

Oh and also, Joe's Juice works great on Aiptasia.

HTH!

Just bought some Joe's Juice and it works great. It also seems to go a long way for the price. Adam's in Des Moines is carrying it now.

The aptasia at my house love pickling lime, then they're gone. Why did it take so long for them to show themselves in your tank? Maybe they will host your Nemo if you let them get big. I also use pickling lime for kalkwasser. Just bought a new can for $2.55 (it has gone up) at Hy-Vee to replace the can I bought last winter. One can lasts a whole year. Matt, how full is your vehicle for Feb 11? I have a latenite date on the 10th and my boss offered to work on the 11th for me! Fish Focus used to sell bubbles. They are pretty. You could advertise them in the selling forum or trade at Fish Focus.

I'll have to get some pickling lime and nuke them before they get out of hand. I was just at Adams on Saturday but didn't see any aptasia until today!

I'll have to give fish focus a call and see if they're running low on the bubble algae! :D

As for the 11th as of right now it's Me, Jeremy, Jeremy's Girlfriend (sorry can't remember her name) and that's it. So if you want to ride along I'm sure we can make room.
